i phone...is there such a thing?

Wife wants a way to connect her i phone to our surround receiver so she can play her music through it at home.

I think there are docks for mp3 players that have connected speakers but is there something like what she wants available that connects somehow to the A/V receiver?

I am phone illiterate...my eyes glaze over when I just try to make a call on her i phone..

Thanks

I dont have an I Phone, but it should just have a 1/8" stereo jack out (for headphones). Buy a converter from Radio Shack that converts 1/8" stereo to RCA L and R jacks. Plug the RCA's into an empty port on your reciever.

So your connection would be 1/8" stereo from Iphone----> 1/8" into RCA Converter----> RCA Left and Right to reciever.

That will definitely work -- though the audio quality will be better if you use a dock, rather than the headphone jack. Just get a dock with RCA outs, and connect to one of the AUX or tape inputs on the receiver.

Thanks.
What does the dock actually connect to in the phone if not the headphone jack?

There are numberous devices that will do exactly what she wants.

One of the cooler ones is made by Universal Remotes. http://www.universalremote.com/produ....php?model=155 Not only will it pull the music off of her iPhone, it will stream music from your PC's or Macs.

Marantz makes one that will work with anything.. www.marantz.com

There are many many other ones. You shouldn't have any problem pulling this off for her.

the dock would connect to the place where the charger goes in.

I run my MBP and iPhone with the 1/8 inch just because it costs about 3.00 (they're cheaper at Wal-Mart btw) and you're playing back MP3 files so quality isn't exactly stellar to begin with.

Duh! I go and look at our Yamaha receiver and it says it has a dock dock terminal for bluetooth....I assume this will work?

Good buddy of mine has a dock that is powered so it charges his Ipod and uses the bar plugin on the underside for audio which comes out as 2 rca cables that he plugs into his receiver. No remote for that one though.

Alot of iPod accessories don't work with the iPhone. Make sure it's compatible!

This sounds like what she wants as long as it works with the i phone.

Thanks again to everyone.

I asked my bud if he knew the model of what he has and it looks like I was missing some info.

"No, but I want to say it's a Garmin of some type. It's got charging, audio connection, S-Video, and the three prong Red, White, & Yellow cable included. And a remote to control it all. I was having trouble with my video connection, but I haven't spent enough time on it yet to get that resolved. "
