What's a '52 Tele go for?

A real one. I know '59 LP's are in the hundreds of thousands. I've seen a couple '66 strats for $10 grand. Just wondering, not buying.

Various prices of course. I've seen two here in the past year...right at the $50,000 range.

In the height of the market, say in 2006 or 2007, folks at guitar shows would advertise early 50's Teles for $28K-$40K. A '52 is the first year they said "Telecaster" on the headstock, so that particular year usually commands a higher price in the market.

Take a look at Vintage Guitar Magazine to see what folks are asking for them THIS month (GRIN). Or, just call Gruhn in Nashville, or Elderly Instruments in Lansing, Michigan and ask if they've seen any for sale lately - there aren't THAT many of 'em ...

Merry Christmas, Dana O.

Hmmm. Jay Rosen has a clean '52 Esquire for $29,250 and a '51 Nocaster for $57,575. Gruhn has a '53 Telecaster (and a lot of the greats played '53s) with a replaced switch tip for $37,500. If you can handle lots of overspray (over original finish) and replaced pots, Gruhn also has a '52 for $15k.

September of '51, not '52, is when the name "Telecaster" first appeared.
