mdv2 - effects loop, or not?

Hi

Anyone using a Fulltone MDV2? Do you use it in your effects loop or not? What is the theoretical benefit of putting it in the loop [not really got my head around this yet...]

I'm using a Blackstar 5w tube amp which as an effects loop which is switchable to -10dBV for effects pedals.

I currently use my EHX DMM and Holy Grail in the loop and they sound great in there.

I'll play around with the placing - but was just wondering what others had experienced in the meantime...

I was using my mini deja in the loop of my Budda for a while and found it to sound bright and thin. I moved it in front of my amp and it sounded much better.

Vibes sound much, much better in front of an amp because they were designed to run in front of an amp. Think of all the famous vibe tones and they are all in front of the amp.

+1

I LOVE vibes, and have found they're little funny as far as placement. Most modulation effects sound best in the loop (chorus, flange, delay). From my experience, phasers and vibes sound best in front of the amp.

When mixed with dirt, they sound best before OD and Distortion, but after Fuzz.

I tried running numerous vibes (rm voodoo vibe+, sweetsound ultravibe and mojovibe, foxrox aquavibe, lovepedal picklevibe) in my loop, they always sound better in front of the amp.

Cheers - how were they designed to be in front?

I have always found for pedals that delays and reverbs belong in the loop. Modulation I guess depends on the loops, but will usually always sound good in front of the amp if the loop isn't tolerant.
