Stomp Under Foot CWM Civil War Muff: A review.

Behold the Stomp Under Foot CWM. This is #8 in the production of this pedal by Matt.

First off a little about the purchase. I emailed Matt about this one after reading Kit Rae's review of it. After listening to the clips I was quite impressed. So impressed in fact that I immediately sold my '90s Green Muff and placed an order. I was lucky enough to catch Matt right as he was finishing a batch and promised me the first one of the new year. The pedal arrived today so here we go.

First off I am a Gilmour fan and I was looking for something to get that PULSE tone, or at least in the ballpark.

Well how does a behind home plate VIP seat sound? Well a lot like this pedal. It's extremely articulate. Even playing chords I get a lot of definition on every note. whereas some Muffs just don't like chords at all.

And is it loud? You betcha. Where the knobs are in the pic are about the farthest I've had to take it through my amp (Hiwatt 100) to get fantastic lead tones. Actually I had the volume at about half but cut it back only for volume's sake. But the Sustain is as far as I needed to go.

And for lead work it's out of this world. Singing sustaining notes that, if held long enough, start to give off the slightest (but usable) feedback that's just glorious to behold. I turned on my trusty CS-2 and just enjoyed the ride. Creamy, uplifting tone. Backing off the volume knob gave me some nice sounds as well, something other Muffs I've owned couldn't even attempt to do without sounding cruddy. To go all the way, I turned on my delay and my Hardwire chorus and I was right there on stage at Earl's Court with the band.

And for extra fun, I ran my DOD 308 OD in front of it to see how it liked it and it stacked quite well, with the DOD giving it extra bite if I needed it.

All in all I couldn't be happier. This pedal was exactly what I was looking for, which was a Civil War Muff I could afford. Plus I can power it with my Godlyke Power-All and never worry about batteries again.

Oh yeah and the sparkly blue case makes it the prettiest pedal on th e board.

But don't take my word for it. Give one of these bad boys a spin. I wasn't disappointed.

Matt is the owner and maker of the pedals. Everything is on the site and Matt's a great guy to deal with.

I prefer the sound of the Ram's head clips with the CVM right behind it.

Nice stuff Matt. I hope you sell a ton of these.
With those extremely fair prices you offer, may they wind up getting used out live
and not on a pretty shelf to be lovingly adored (and dusty).
