Fender Rivera Concert Amp - Recording direct out??
Gang, I picked up a Fender Rivera Concert (sometimes called a Concert II).
Came with 2 EV Force 10 anchors, I mean speakers. Popped in 2 Jensen neo 10-100s and am loving it! Question - it has a 1/4" jack "recording direct out" What type of signal is being sent? It sounds okay from my shitty basement PA. My best guess is a simple cab-like EQ which would be good for sound reinforcement. Thanks.

Is that a mod? All of those that I've seen have a single 12 in them. The best one I ever played though had a Mesa C90 in it.

aeolian -indeed that is stock. There were a few that came that way but the 1x12 was SIGNIFICANTLY more popular.

Signal strength will depend on setting of volume(s). But whatever you do, keep the speakers connected.
You may get better results through your PA by using the effects loop send instead of the line out. |

Thanks, Creamy! But do you know what exactly is sent? Hard to tell on my crappy little PA.
Hawkeye - neat amps for sure! Lots of great tone and very dynamic all in a little package.

I have a Super Champ from the same era and most likely the same type of recording output. The output is not compensated.

It means it doesn't have speaker emulation, it is just a line out. We tried using the recording output on my brother's amp and it sounded pretty thin, it needs EQ'ing to sound OK. We were just recording a clean sound, so we were able to make it work.

zombiwoof - thank you! My plan was to only use it in those gig situations were I didn't think I needed reinforcement then realize I do so just run that to the board and twist a dial. And from your experience that sounds easy enough!

hi - I haven't posted here for a while but I thought I'd do so to let you know my Rivera-era info page has moved to
http://www.stratopastor.org.uk/strat...esfenders.html ... and I'm still collecting serial numbers for these amps in reurn for a fairly accurate date of manufacture. Email via the site if you'd like to help... I'm not far off my target of 1000 sets of amp data, after which I will try to publish (somewhere). Incidentally, agreeing with the replies above, the line out on these amps is the speaker signal from the power tubes and power transformer, simply padded down with a couple of resistors (unlike some other amps where the line out is only from the preamp). And yes, it does sound thin because it doesn't come to your ears via the woofer-sized speakers. A small cap soldered across the 2 terminals of the line out socket would help.

How would you wire this externally?

strumminsix, that would work. The cap needs to be simply wired hot-to-ground and as a starting value I'd try 0.1uF. If that rolls off too much high end go for a smaller value, and vice versa.
aftguitar94, the serial number is in the format Fxxxxxx and it's stamped into a small bright-metal area on the black rear panel of the chassis.
