Any love for the band Cold Blood?

I recently picked up the DVD of Fillmore: The Last Days and hadn't heard of Cold Blood before, but I was completely blown away by Lydia Pense and the band. I love the East Bay funk sound, and these guys deliver it in spades and Lydia just kills it on vocals. I think I'm in love! Anyone else got any love for classic Cold Blood?

As another fun thing, what perked me up about the band was their cover of "I Want To Know How It Feels To Be Free", which the Derek Trucks Band has had in their setlist for probably 7-8 years now. I knew what to expect from Santana and the Dead from listening to my friend's parent's LP of the Last Days, but I don't remember this track...real great. Another dTb cover, "I Feel So Bad" was done by them later on, extremely funky and good. Their cover of Sam & Dave's "You Got Me Hummin'" from the Last Days concert is what really drew me in though.

Here's Cold Blood's performance from Fillmore: The Last Days (in shitty youtube quality, but the awesomeness still shines)

Yeah she really is something else. I saw some youtube clips of her performing with the current Cold Blood line-up, and she's still hittin' the note! Amazing how well she does at this age, she must have really taken care of herself. Top notch stuff.

Always reminded me of Janis, but never got the attention. Good, solid band, too.

The 14 piece horn band I was in back home covered her version of 'you got me hummin' ... she's got a solid band and good arrangements, for sure.

A great band. Lydia is amazing. I saw them a couple of times back in the early '70's. I got to sit right in front of here the second time. I swear she almost didn't need a PA system. I saw them again a couple of years ago at the Belly Up. I got to talk to her and told her she "melted my teenage brain" at those early shows. She cracked up. She's very nice and still sounds great.

Love Cold Blood - learned a bit about them a bunch of years ago, and found one CD - was looking for more stuff, but it seemed to be on LP only... sure it's out there. I've also heard of recent outings. Love the Oakland stuff too!

I hear the Janis influence and similar stylings for sure. Janis is great, but Lydia just seems much smoother and together in her performances, IMO.

Glad that this thread could help open up some new ears!

I think most of their stuff has been reissued on CD. I'm gonna pick up a live recording called "Vintage Blood" from '73 from Dig Music out of Sacramento that was released a couple years ago. The sound clips show that it was a super funky show and a great performance.

Ha, it turns out that they were on the same bill as my band at a "PoP Festival" in Edmonton, Canada in about 1973 or 74. It must have been on a different day. Boy, if we would have had to follow them, they'd have handed us our lunch!
