I Can't Get Enough of Clutch and Them Crooked Vultures

I've got over 30GB of music on my iTouch but the only thing that really gets me going right now is Clutch and Them Crooked Vultures. I saw Clutch live in September '09 and I was blown away, I just love Neil Fallon's stage presence, he really is a true front man. I really can't put my finger on their music style, it's kind of swampy/bluesy/stoner-ish/southern/hard rock.

And Them Crooked Vultures, what can I say. The best collaboration I've heard in a long time and quite the mix of musical tastes/talents/backgrounds. It's amazing how one song can sound like Zep and QOTSA all rolled into one and yet sound completely different.

I have been lucky enough to see Clutch several times (the first time I saw them really turned me on to them...I only went because they were touring with Corrosion of Conformity). With every album, they get better and better! Blast Tyrant is still my favorite of theirs, though.

And, yes, Them Crooked Vultures was the only record I bought last year on the day that it came out. I love QOTSA (saw them with Turbonegro a few years ago), and I love Zeppelin. To me, it sounds like a QOTSA with a badass bass/keyboard player. Cheers!

clutch doesn't get nearly the attention they deserve!! i have seen them 12 times and am floored every time. j.p. the drummer is an animal and neil has one of the best voices in rock, fits the music perfectly!!! strange cousins might be my favorite clutch record and one of the best in 2009 fo sho!!!

Our band has been told on about 15 different occasions that we sound like Clutch. At the time I had never heard of them but now that I have heard their stuff I take that as a huge compliment. Clutch rocks!!

Someone turned me on to Clutch a while ago, and I love them! They are so unlike the other modern rock bands out there right now.

I'm going to have to check out Crooked Vultures.

I never really listened to Clutch but TCV has been playing almost non stop since the album came out.

I would say that's not a bad way of describing them. They cover quite a bit of territory, and have evolved a lot during almost 20 years. Clutch is one of my very favorites.

Feel the Power! Got to see both a ACL this year. Fantastic. Along with the Dead Weather. The three were among the highlights of the festival for me.

A previous co-worker of mine recorded a few of Clutch's albums, but I admittedly don't know much about the band.

TCV is on the top of my lists right now too!
I LOVE Dave Ghrol as a DRUMMER. Period.
Josh Homme is one of my favorite axe men and has such a unique sound.
JPJ - well considering LZ is probably my favorite band of all time, I can't get enough of him.

The best part about that group is that they all sound exactly like themselves, just as one would expect, but it fits so damn good together!

Clutch went from being one of my favorite bands to being the one and only band to put me to sleep at a live show.

I remember hanging with the guys after their show on the Transnational Speedway League tour. Great bunch of guys. We spent quite a bit of time eating pizza and laughing at the ruffled shirts that happened to be the fashion choice of the 2 bands they opened for.

Fast forward to Elephant riders. My leat favorite album of theirs at the time. I worked a long 12 hour day and went to see them. They played a tired out and lengthy set of jams that bored me to sleep. I have not listened to them since.

People have told me that they have since put out some of their best stuff but I have not bothered to check any of it out.

Maybe I should check them out again. What am I missing?

Try out Blast Tyrant. It isn't very jammy or particularly bluesy. It has heavy tunes that are recorded nicely. However, I wouldn't say it is as edgy as Transnational or "Clutch." It is my favorite release of theirs since the eponymous album.

Their "Binge & Purge" days are long gone, I'm afraid.
