Preamp Tubes For 1987x
On recommendation from a few nice fellows here I have a matching pair of SD winged C power tubes on the way. Now I would like to replace those Marshall preamp tubes. I have done a little bit of rading but have gotten dizzy at what to put where and why !!!
So for LZ, Aersomith to GnR tones what do the tone gurus recommend ? thanks |

Have heard good things about Sylvanias. For newer tubes, I like JJ but some folks don't.

1987x is a pretty bright amp. For new tubes, JJs might not be a bad idea since they tend to be a little darker than average.
I also like Sylvanias in V1, and have had luck with old GE 12ax7s in all positions. If you want just a little earlier breakup try an RFT in V1 Experiment as much as you can. Have fun. Take a vacation. Buy a new car. Build castles in the sand. Shoot passers-by with a water pistol. |

I vote for a NOS RFT in V1. Nice, quiet tube that darkens the tone just a tad and will help bring out that creamy break-up.
For newer stuff, honestly, I like the JJs, especially the low-noise ones, can't remeber which.
