Seymour Duncan Phat Cat or Gibson P-94?
Hello everybody,
I want to replace the stock 490 humbuckers in my mahogany-rosewood Gibson Special SG Faded with humbucker-sized P-90s. Which of the two would you guys recommend and why? Change to Seymour Duncan Phat Cats or stay with Gibson and get P-94S? Thanks, Robert |

Tried both, the Gibson blew away the Duncan in clarity and crunch. Never tried it in the bridge though (that's a Gibson Iommi HB).

It's going to depend a lot of the guitar and, of course, what you're after. I think it'd be a tough call without trying both and I'm sure any number of players would prefer one over the other in a given situation. I'm a big fan of Duncan's Phat Cats. They're big and warm sounding while retaining the single coil character. I've put them in most of my bucker guitars and they've worked extremely well.

I think I just answered your post at HC. I have a set of Tonerider rebel 90s for sale if you're interested. They're nice sounding pickups. I just pulled them out of an SG in fact. I just wanted humbuckers on this particular guitar.

I like Phat Cats much more that P-94s for what I do, but they are not a totally P-90 sound. They have their own thing.
