Please help add to my gear-head jargon list

After reading several posts on the Univibe-style pedals I discovered yet another new gear-oriented term for my vocabulary, "chewy" or "chewiness." I think I know what it means. Thicker and balls-ier, I'm guessing. I am still trying to understand the most essential meaning for the other gear-related jargon one encounters in the online GAS universe. Some I totally get, some I'm still trying to grasp, like "chime," the true meaning of which still evades me. Here's the list so far:

  • woody (for speakers, pickups, guitars and men in general )
  • twang (for those Tele buffs)
  • honk
  • bark (as in describing the tone of a good Les Paul)
  • chime
  • scooped
  • sparkle
  • jangle
  • swoosh
  • growl
  • creamy
  • punchy
  • crunchy (not as in cereal but in Marshall tone)

...and many more I can't remember at the moment. Please feel free to add to the list.

GP magazine started that whole thing in the early 90's.

Greg Koch took it to the limits.

Generally used by guitar collectors, as opposed to players.

"Snarky" is my personal fave...

Clammy. Heard a recording engineer refer to a tone as "clammy"....and it made sense.

These are great! I can't believe I forgot spanky, farty and ice pick. I was considering woman tone. I like these because they are descriptors that defy description which is what I was shooting for in my original list. The kind of words when uttered make boutique amp builders hang up on you ("Can you build me an amp with tone that has a lot of chime, sparkle, crunch and is woody?" [on the other end of the phone] "Click....") But I think it's good to include all gear head jargon. Someone mentioned "relic." One of my all-time favorite posts was about how every time the person saw the word "relicing" he thought of re-applying lice to one's head, and added why would you put them there in the first place!
