Ampeg Vt40 Died Midway thru Gig

So we were starting our 4th song and a few bars into the intro it just died. The power went out on it. No sound was coming out of it at all. I flipped the power and stand by switches back and forth till finally it came on and stayed on for the rest of the show.

Ive had this problem happen 2 or 3 times at rehearsal but i thought it was the cheap power strip i was plugging it into. It also happened at sound check that night at the show but then it worked up until the intro to that song.

Any ideas why this might be happening? As soon as i get some money im taking it to a tech here in oklahoma city.

Too many variables. You should get it to a tech. It could be any number of things. Was the power light out or just no sound? Has it had a cap job? How old are the power tubes?

I only know of one tech here in OKC, and he has had a channel strip of mine for almost a year now and still hasn't gotten around to it. He's good, but he's slow. I could of fixed it myself, but without an O-scope and a good schematic, it'd take more time than I'd want to invest in it. But I'm pretty sure I would have had it fixed by now had I just kept it myself. In any case, I'm pretty good with tube amps. They tend to be pretty simple circuits. PM me if you want and I can take a look at it for free and see if anything jumps out at me. It might save you some time and money. If I can't figure anything out, well it was going to the tech anyway.

The only tech I know of in OKC is Protronics on May Ave (next to Honest Ron's). He's slow, only opened a few days a week, and doesn't answer his phone. Other than that, I would highly recommend him. He's the Mesa authorized repair center in OKC.

Yeah, that's the guy I was referring to. Does great work otherwise, though.
