boosting an Orange OR in the effects loop?

can I use a Bad Monkey to boost the power tubes via the efx loop? I read that some guys use a MicroAmp or a Chili Picasso to do this... I wonder if I will have an impedance issue and I don't want to hurt my OR....

and if not a Bad Monkey... what else besides those mentioned? Can I use the Barber pedal? I need a clean boost.

I have never used an overdrive pedal in the effects loop. I do use a few clean boost however, and it works great. You won't hurt anything with the Bad Monkey, but if you are looking for a good overdrive sound over just a clean boost, you would be better using it in the front end of your amp.

thank you for your response. I am using a Bad Monkey because it is the closest thing to a clean boost that I have... although I do have a powered 10 band MXR EQ that I could use... would that work? I could run the gain up from unity with the MXR EQ a bit...

I am trying to get an old school OR tone thru the power tubes... without screaming volume...

You can definitely use the EQ pedal. But it is still going to be more of a clean boost unless you already have the power tubes cooking quite a bit. You may need to get an attenuator.

EQ pedals can be noisy FWIW.. BBE makes the Boosta Grande which is a nice clean boost. Also, the Xotic Ep-Booster is another great option. I would think though that in order to get the power tubes cooking a bit 'without screaming volume' an attenuator would be your best bet...

I have a Z Airbrake. While it works great on my Ampeg VT40 it doesn't cut it on my OR120... at high attenuation levels it cuts frequency and at low att levels I still have to run the amp too loud..
