Sweet Home Chicago - How do YOU play it?

Got a little band going and we're playing Sweet Home Chicago, Clapton-style. It sounds just a little boring and I'd like to make it a little more interesting. We've got just three instrumentalists - drums, bass, and me on guitar. I've tried the standard spread rhythm but with just the three of us, it sounds pretty thin. So I've been stuck in a rut with just the I, IV, and V chords.

Any recommendations that might give me some ideas to make it sound better?

The Lonnie Brooks version is cool and I base my version on that one.

You know that Blues Bros version is possibly the worst one.

I like it musically. Pretty hard to pull off that arrangement with a three piece though.

Freddie King's version is very good.

I play it the way folks in Chicago taught me, which is kind of a mix between Buddy Guy's version (in terms of the intro) and Magic Sam's version (in terms of most of the song)

Those are cool, especially the Freddie King version. But Freddie, for example, has got someone on the piano. See it's not the arrangement so much that I'm stuck on, it's 'what can I do as the guitar player in a three piece band to make this more interesting that playing the I, IV, and V chords'.

Why would you ask the people here? you'll get replies from people who haven't listened to anything new since 1977 and actually believe the Blues Bros were cool.
