Kind of buggered my plans though because my amp is a 100W Marshall head

But thanks anyway!
Yep, you need two 4x12's with those 20w to even consider it. Trust me...I have been there, as have many of my clients with their now "overcooked" 20w G12M's.

I have two 4x12s - but I only have enough of the T1221s to put in one of them - will that be all right then? Or is it a problem running 4 x 20W in one cab and 4 x 25W in the other - some sort of unbalanced load problem?

Thanks again for your help btw!

Nope, if you run them both you're good. i wouldn't run one alone with the 100w head and turn the volume past 4, though. No one likes the smell of smoking voice coils and burnt cone paper.

Thanks - I might yet try it, although really I wanted to run just the vintage set so I could compare the sound between those and the stock speakers...mixing them together probably wont work as well..

Hi. Recently dug out an old Celestion G12H that's been lying around for some time (and am in the process of making myself a 1x12 cabinet). It came out of an old (mid-sixties) Dynacord Rex – that sadly died on me some 15 years ago – where it was paired with an obviously newer 100w Fane Classic (late 70s/early 80s ?). Thanks to this thread, I could identify the speaker as a "Greyback" from '74 (FG 25), but reading on made me curious about the rest of the printed codes...

on the frame: T1234 (+ an inspection stamp)
on the cone: RIC1AU (white print)

Does the print on the cone signify a (factory?) recone?..

So what did I have in my closet:?

It had a tear which was repaired with tissue paper and some silicone glue it seems, but it works nicely.

You had a 102 3 Pulsonic cone G12M 25w, w/75 hz bass response, from March, 1972 (CE date code). Too bad about the repaired cone. If it wasn't repaired you could expect it to be worth from $250-350 USD.

Aha, thanks Jim.

I had a 73-74' Marshall cab full of those, but one of the speakers came like that and was replaced with a reissue greenback around 2000 or so.
I later sold the cab, and just forgot I had this speaker in storage
I'll find some use for it, probably putting it in a 1x12" cab for relatively low volume living room recording or something.
Thanks for your help!

fusermarucs- If you have that quad wired up as 15/16 ohm ("15 ohm" was just a designation decision by Celestion), I was gonna suggest you could try it with just two power tubes in your 100W head, one on each side, amp set to 8 ohms for same reflected load. Still might want to avoid diming though.
