Personally, I wouldn't bring anything too valuable into a college dorm room. The risk of damage or theft is too high. I'd go with a Fender solid state. They sound good enough, are easy to replace, and don't cost much on the used market.

Shit, I'd love to bring the recto with me, but these dorms are puny, and I want something a little bit more..expendable.

I had everything up to a 100w half stack in the dorm in my years.

But I recommend something compact, maybe SS, that allows for headphone use or good tones at low volumes. An electric into headphones is even quieter, and more considerate, for your roommate than an acoustic, because while listening to someone play guitar and great, listening to someone practice guitar is not.

Better to size up your need and your roommate before sinking any real money.

Plus, lots of thefts in college, don't take something irreplaceable.

Yeah, getting my stuff robbed is one of my biggest fears. I don't have a Dumble, but I dropped a good amount of clams working minimum wage. I was thinking about one of those Pod things, I just don't know what its going to be like wearing headphones all the time.

Been through the exact situation, though many many years ago. I say bring your full rig. When I started college, I brought just a Marshall combo and left my JCM800 half stack at home with my best friend. Couple months into college I had already found many friends to jam with and a band. I had my friend UPS me my half stack and used it all the time throughout college. Freshman year my roomate also had a half stack. We had full on band practice in our dorm, with drums. We were on the seventh floor and people on the second floor could hear us. No one really complained. We would also use the lecture halls after hours for band practice. College is your new life and home; it'll also be one of your best opportunities to play with others. Bring everhing you can.

That's another thing I was thinking about, however I'm still going to be doing a lot of recording and I don't know how those Vox Plugs would do.

I had a Peavey Bandit 112 (Red Stripe) and an ESP Eclipse in my dorm room. Guitar Rig 2 for playing after hours.

I've got Amplitube 2 on my computer, I'm guessing it's my computer's fault but it just it just clips and cuts out all the time in the middle of playing. Pretty annoying.
