What kind of cable...
...looks like an XLR mic cable, but has 5 skinny posts inside instead of 3 fatter ones like a normal mic cable?
I find myself in possession of one, and I don't know what it is!

Sounds like a DIN connector. DIN's can be 5 pin or 7 pin and can carry audio or midi or even phantom power like an XLR connector. However, the cable that you use is important too.

It could also be a 5 pin XLR cable.
These are used for stereo mics and tube mics that need additional power sent to the mic head. |

Hmmm... both good answers. Thanks! And both a PITA since I don't have gear that uses this kind of cable!

Are you sure it's not a MIDI cable? Is it Male on both ends?
