Speaker Breakup in Port City 4x12
I am currently running a JMI Vox AC50 into a Port City 4x12 w/ Vintage 30's.
At very loud levels (amp about 7 or 8 - no mv) I get an amazing cusp of breakup tone that is amazing to my ears. I am curious if I swapped some greenbacks in the Port City to make it a 100w cab instead of a 240w, if that would help me achieve breakup at an earlier and a touch quieter position on my AC50? Thoughts? |

Probably, tho other characteristics may also change.

Outside of tonal issues will there be noticeable breakup difference between the cab rated at 100W vs 240W w/ a 50w head?

If you swap G12M25's for your V30's, I should expect a lot of earlier breakup. However it may not be as tight in the bass any more, may get a bit woofy. You might try just replacing two of the speakers first and see how you like that before swapping them all out.
