What modern singers can belt it out?

Does anyone know of younger singers who belt it out possibly along the lines of classic Dio, Ian Gillan, Rob Halford, Glenn Hughes, John Wetton, Paul Williams, Greg Lake, Alex Ligertwood, James Dewar, Freddy Mercury, Steve Walsh or Joe Lynn Turner just to name a few? Of course harmonies would be nice too whether of the Gentle Giant, Yes or Beatles/Squeeze/Jellyfish/King's X variety...

I don't follow current rock very closely partly because I haven't come across much in the way of vocals which I care for and the few more recent bands I do enjoy, I more or less overlook the relatively weak vocals. I have heard Jorn Lande who reminds me a lot of David Coverdale back in the day and Myles Kennedy but it seems pretty rare to find powerful or refined rock vocals these days regardless of sub-genre...

Thanks

Check out Josh Dion... he plays killer drums and sings like a mofo. His band is excellent, too...
Get this cd now! Every tune just kills...

Probably not what you're looking for, but it's hard to think of a singer who can produce a bigger or more pure sound than Neko Case.

James LeBrie from Dream Theater
Tim "Ripper" Owens with Iced Earth (only on a few albums)

You might like Nightwish as well. Pretty cool female vocals with them.

Thanks I know those bands too...I tend to prefer the female singers in heavier bands these days if I had to generalize and wondered if I were missing any male singers of note. LaBrie isn't even all that young actually and I can't say I am much of a fan though he can sing. I suppose part of what is missing for me is some of the blues sensitivity those older guys had, even when as in Dio and Halford's cases they sang music which was fairly far removed from that

Take care

+1 on Tim Owens. I didn't care for the Judas Priest stuff that he made with them, but his Iced Earth stuff is awesome. He's a monster singer.

Good luck. The current style of cookie monster verses against a high-pitched chorus drives me nuts.
If I had to pick someone on the radio today......maybe Daughtry.
Vocals just seem so thin these days, at least with the mainstream artists.

Myles Kennedy... As well as chris cornell and daughtry.

In my experience however. Most singers at that level can really throw down. Just cause they don't track it doesn't mean they can't do it.

For example, Pink... so friggin good it hurts... wouldn't know it from her albums though.

I was on tour with katy perry. Not only could she belt for days but play a mean guitar. As well as Piano, and studied jazz on gtr.

FORGIVE ME! Lady Gaga can play the crap out of a piano, and sing her butt off. I dislike most of the music I've heard her put out. but the unplugged stuff where she just plays keys and sings is amazing.

My point is. Most famous or successful singers are there for a reason. I do realise the media can make anyone famous. It's just easier to sell someone who won't mess up lip syncing live cause they can't carry a tune haha.

Even Taylor swift............ Can write a song like no other.... Yeah you thought I was going there haha.

Thanks. I did mention Kennedy in the original post and Cornell isn't all that young at nearly 46. I have no doubt that some people even today here and there can really sing which is why I am looking for actual ROCK groups where they do that (preferably in a context I appreciate).

I have heard Pink sing live and it was fine for what it was certainly. Still there is considerable difference between that and the people I mentioned initially as I think should be pretty evident.

A lot of what I am looking for that only comes from doing something all, or nearly all of the time. But in case it wasn't evident, I was looking for vocalists belting it out in ROCK.

Thanks

Does Abbe May "belt it out" enough for you?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0fDeeP8sjk

When I first saw this song - which was the first time I had heard of Abbe - I was blown away. I have since seen her live as she's a local where I live. She is the real deal. Awesome talent and extremely humble to the the point of shyness. Not what you'd guess from her performances.

Thanks...I didn't know her and listened to some other tracks as well. Good solid bluesy rock with feeling which I have come to appreciate more as it has become more scarce

Take care

I dig Brandon Boyd from Incubus a lot. The band not so much, they have a handful of tunes I like but i'd say Brandon could hold his own with any of the old school greats you mentioned. Mostly a great sense of melody.

I think Matthew Bellamy from MUSE could hang with just about anyone.
