Dying to golf: Where to play in Hilton Head?

I am an avid golfer. I play close to 100 rounds per year. Since the weather sucks here most of the time I can only play about 6 months out of the year. I take the family to Hilton Head every year for vacation. We have been going there for over 12 years. Believe it or not I have only played golf twice at Hilton Head. Why? Because my wife thinks that I should spend time with the family when on a "family" vacation.
OK, whatever, I'm laid back, I can deal with it. This year my parents will be in Hilton Head the same week we are there (Easter Week). My dad made my wife feel guilty for not letting me golf so I got the hall pass to play one round in Hilton Head this year (way to go dad).
Where should we play? Try to keep it under $100. It's OK to venture off the island.

Go!

You play 100 rounds a year -- but can you hit it straight? If not, stay offa that Hilton Head course where the Tour plays. It's narrow.

For very sweet resort courses, I really liked the Arthur Hills-designed layouts.

One of my absolute favorite golf courses on this planet is over on Daufuskie Island. It's a former private club called the Melrose Club. It's hard to get there (you have to go by boat) but it's an astounding place with a tremendous Jack Nicklaus course. It's been rocked by the recession, went into Chapter 11, but they're keeping it up. It'll be like playing your own private course, I'm sure.
There's an inn there. My idea of fun would be to stay in the inn for a few nights and just play that course over and over.

I'm about an 8 handicap so I hit it fairly straight. The PGA course you are talking about is Harbor Town. I've played that course. It is definitely narrow. I also played Shipyard which is even worse. You almost can't use a driver there. I would love to play at Daufuskie but I think it's ultra expensive, almost $180 per round. The wife won't go for that.
I heard that Hilton Head National is good (and cheap). Might check that out unless someone here gives me a better alternative.

Yep, usually twice with customers (I'm in sales) and twice with my brother and dad.

I'd recommend The Country Club of Hilton Head. I lived on Hilton Head in the mid-90's and I always thought that was the best bang for the buck on the island. Just off island is Old South Golf Links. Also a great take with some great views.
