I had a two knob Keeley for many years then sold it and went compressor less for about a year or so. I just never cared for it but just felt it had to be on the board. I now have had an Ego Comp for about 5 months and like it a lot. The blend knob is what makes this so usable for me. I believe he says on his webpage that it's a cross between a Keeley type compressor and an old vintage Dynacomp.

Good info thanks. I've been trying to use the Keeley as a always on pedal for my strat, turning it off for the Les Paul. It sometimes works, I find it a little different each time.

The attraction to the Ego, or tone press for that matter, is the blend so I can retain the attack while providing some beef and sustain.

I had a 4 knob Keeley and did not care for it. The settings seemed to drift for me. I had the HBE and that was a better unit, but I traded it. (dumb move!) Anyway, I recently got a AM Comprosser and Juicer. Nice comps, but my Wampler is the ultimate for me. It is very adjustable. I use it in the loop of my CA OD2-100. I use it for the clean channel only. It really lets my slow chords ring out nicely and lets me use my Beano boost on the clean channel without the jump in volume.

I have played both 2 and 4 knob Keeleys, HBE Retro Comp, AM mini Bicomp, Retrosonic Ross, Compbox, Tone Press, VS Rt. 66 compressor,
76 ri Dynacomp, and some others, I just own a Wampler Ego Compressor now, I love the tonality of the unit, great clean build, great customer service and being a country rock, alt/country type player, This Compressor is easiily The best for ME.

How is the tone circuit voiced? Can it add some brightness without thinning out the bottom end/mids?

Thanks

I would agree, had the the 4 knob Wampler compressor before, and I tell you, this 5th knob (tone knob) changes the whole vibe of the pedal, seems to bring it to life. It makes the compressor, punchier and the notes have a clarity that was not there before.

My 4 knob Keeley was replaced with the 4 knob cmatmods compressor, and I haven't looked back.

I like my 2 knob Keeley. I play strat into a d-styled amp. i have the compression @ 9o'clock so I don't notice a huge squash, just a bit to even out the notes and make each string stand out clearer.

After a couple of keeleys and a juicer, I bought a japanese boss cs2...b/c it was REALLY cheap, and I intended to flip it. Now it's the only comp that I own---I really dig it.
