David Allan Coe's guitars

I noticed that David Allan Coe always seems too play guitars that are usually associated with heavier rock and metal. Does anyone know why? I know that it it up to player to play whatever instrument he wants to play, and that is cool. But I was just wondering if he has ever given a reason why.

To go with ass-kickin' I'm-a-rebel persona after getting shunned by the country music scene many years ago.

Recently streamed a concert of his from Netflix and it was horrible.
Boring as hell.

Too bad, I really like his songs.

Ever look at the guy? He's about Flashy and standing out. A Blonde Tele ain't gonna do it for him. Hard to believe Warren Haynes started with him.

Have you ever met him? I've opened for him twice and it was definitely an "experience". If you've met him, his choice of guitars becomes more understandable.

I think they're doing David Allen Coe songs on American Idol next week.

Because he is a full blown washed up idiot....I loved his early stuff, but as others have mentioned, he is terrible now. I wasted $20 on him several years ago & it was the worst concert I have ever been to...didn't even have a bass player & the rest of the band looked like half dead crackheads. Talked about himself more than he played, drank more than he played, etc. Had a terrible cheesy vocal processor for background vocals....

I've seen David Allan Coe live, and after seeing him I can only guess that he uses those guitars because he doesn't care 1 bit what he sounds like. His stage sound is AWFUL.

I saw him in Decatur, IL. No bass player, pissed off looking son playing a Gothic Flying V through a 5150, a bunch of weird medleys that had nothing to do with most of his tunes, and only played for one hour. TERRIBLE!

Ironically, I was just talking with a friend of mine last night and DAC came up. He saw him in Iowa City a few years ago and said that it was the worst concert he ever saw. On top of that DAC wouldn't allow a full band to open for him and made the venue turn off the AC or he wouldn't go on. My buddy said that it was miserably hot.

I have heard the same thing about seeing him live( i've never seen him myself). But I would say it is a combination of all of the above. He used to kick a**. I saw some videos of him on youtube and there were Randall cabs, looked like 5150 amps(I could be wrong) and he was playing one of Dime's guitars. Well, at least it was the rebel flag one.....

Dimebag Darrell Abbott was a buddy of DAC. After the Rebel Meets Rebel project you could see him jamming one of Dime's Rebel Flag Dean or Washburn. Matter o' fact I think Dime gave him a whole spare Pantera rig!

Randall amps don't nesessarily produce the sweetest country tones!...but then again neither does DAC!
