solid state + $$$ for a pair of tube relics

hey all,
i've been chewing on a potential amp swap for a week or so and haven't been able to commit one way or another. i came across a pair of REALLY old and truly funky Teisco tube amps at a instrument repair/electronics shop run by grizzled old fellow.
#1 is a Checkmate 100 head
#2 is a Professional 2x12 combo, (i think) 3x 6v6 w/ reverb, no speakers.
he has been sitting on these for probably 25 years and has no idea of their condition and doubtfully would ever begin work on them.
i offered a s/s roland cube30 (i paid $190 for it ~3 years ago and still like new) + $100 for the pair. he is pondering the deal as i am. can anyone offer some advice on how deep a pit this project could be?(money and time)
and . . oh yes, i'm in costa rica with very little technical support. chris???? are you there?

If you like that 1960's instrumental music / surf music tone then you simply gotta snatch that Checkmate 100.
