Black Coffee, How Do I Do It?
I want to get away from the french vanilla creamer, but I can't get used to the taste of black.
Any tips? |

yeah, stop being a pu**y and drink the bitter!
- seriously, I used to have the sweets with the coffee, but now it's black or maybe milk in it once in a while. never sugar. I am repulsed by the sweetness at this point. Plus, take a moment to watch the fat asses that walk into stuckbars or dunkin's...

Buy good coffee and grind your own. That goes a long, long way. Also use good, filtered H2O.

I weaned myself onto black coffee a long time ago and I was into it for years. I absolutely grew to love and prefer it that way. Just gotta keep doing it until you like it. Good coffee definitely helps. Bad coffee (Dunkin' Donuts) needs all that crap in it.
That said, I'm back to tons of half-and-half in my (good, Arabica) coffee now and I'd have a hard time getting away from that. Coffee in general's not that great for me, I stop drinking water as much, I come to depend on the stimulation, the cream is just extra calories, I gain weight b/c my body gets dehydrated and doesn't process as well, etc. But I just can't seem stay off the stuff for longer than a few months.

I have found that black coffee is best when you add lots of sugar and cream.

I did it cold turkey (hot turkey?).
I had to get some blood work done one morning and you can't have cream or sugar, so I went black. I thought, "hey, this isn't bad", and I haven't gone back. One of the tricks is to make good coffee, I think. |

I love black coffee, but I love all things bitter. If you don't aquire a taste for it I guess you're screwed.

I used to be addicted to mochas and lattes and whatever fruity delight Starbucks was brewing up at $5 a pop. Now it's plain coffee from Tim Hortons and by the gallon. No more foo foo coffee for me

I've never liked milk in my coffee - in fact it tastes revolting to me! I just accept that most cafes where I live make crap coffee so don't drink it.
Fortunately there are one or two places not too far away that make fantastic black coffee. I have travelled through Europe and the US and there is a place here in Leederville, Western Australia that makes coffee to rival the very best I have tasted anywhere else I have been. But usually my coffee is home-brewed from freshly ground dark roasted Kenya beans. I find milk and sugar both taste separate from the nutty bitterness of a good coffee. They don't mix with or soften the flavour, they just compete and ruin IMHO! |

After drinking coffee "light and sweet" with cream for the last 20 years, I switched to black with some sugar to remove some of the bitterness.
It's faster to make, stays hotter longer, and I've lost about 25 pounds in the last 3 months or so. Currently drinking 8 O'Clock Colombian Roast. Pretty good- very little aftertaste. Stay away from the cream.

Go to the local Co-op and get some good fair trade or equal exchange beans. Grind 'em at home! It's a huge difference. Medium roasts will be less bitter than dark roasts...
