Why would one want to replace Burstbuckers with P90s?
What would the major difference in tone be?

well a burstbucker is a humbucker, and i believe it is a hotter/more modern version of the old gibbo PAF humbucker from the 50s and 60s. The p-90 is a single coil guitar, and while it sounds fatter than say a strat single coil, it is not as thick as a 'bucker

I wish I could say I know what thick sounds like. Does that mean buckers' have more volume or low end punch? IDK, judging by that description it doesn't sound like I would like P90 style single coil pickups.

I think P-90's are the great equalizer between humbuckers and "regular" single coils (say, like on a Strat). I REALLY like them in a neck and if it's a hot one, in the bridge as well. I found the BB's to be kind of muddy (I had a 1&2) so from that point of view I could see putting in P90's. I'm going to drop either an Unbucker or a humbucker sized P90 in the neck of my Les Paul because I've never met a neck humbucker that I loved. I think that P90's are definitely one of those things that can be "you either love 'em or hate 'em) but they've got their own thing going on. Personally, I love the sound.

Don't forget to take into account one important thing, and it's a big one.
Standard P90s will not fit into regular humbucker sized mounts. You will have to find humbucker sized P90s, most major manufacturers make them.
