How's the OCD for low gain stuff?

I remember the OCD to be very dynamic but never tried as a low gain deal and stacking other OD's / Dist into it. How does it work for this.

I am looking to get a dynamic touch responsive drive that I can play at low volume when I can't turn up my amp. Try to get that in between vibe. I haven't found a pedal that does it much better than the Screwdriver yet.

That's the primary way that I use the OCD - low gain as a semi-clean drive and also to add to another pedal (Blackstone Appliance) for a lead tone. I've just finished a tour that began with the OCD off my board, replaced by the Red Snapper. I loved the tone of the Snapper, but it won't help you when you're at very low stage volume. Off came the Snapper, on went the OCD.

BTW, mine's a V4.

Best...H

I tried a bunch of pedals to stack into my London Fuzz II. THe only one that created less noise and goosed the fuzz in a very good way (made it "come alive") was my OCD v.1, one of the first pedals I bought (2006?)

I ran an OCD v4 into the front of a clean Dr. Z Carmen Ghia, goosed by a FD2 for solos. Some of the best tones I ever had.

The ocd is by far the best pedal I have come across at doing the sound you mention - god knows why I sold it. however, it is still much less responsive/dynamic than, say, the clean channel of a mesa f30 with the gain up and master down. (my only true point of reference for the tone you describe)

In my experience, the OCD is the most dynamic and open-sounding OD, especially at low to mid-drive settings.

Do you or anyone own both a the Dano CO-1 Drive and some version of the OCD? Just curious to know how similar they really are (as I have the Dano). I have seen the comparison demos by Gearmanndude, but am curious to hear from other TGP'ers that had both pedals.

* I have read that the Dano is similar to an OCD in HP mode...

As the other posters have said, I think the OCD really shines at low gain sounds. I almost never turn the gain past 9 or 10 o'clock. I haven't tried the Honey Bee (looks like that may be in my future) but have been through numerous attempts to find a better low gain pedal and haven't done it. In my opinion it is not a great lead pedal, but some of the best rhythm sounds can be found therein. And it stacks quite well w/ a Barber DD in front of it for solos.

the ocd is as good as I can imagine a pedal being at low/med gain. hi gain gives you this weird massively boosted bass for some reason...

I use my OCD for that. I set the Drive about as low as I can and leave it on most of the time. For truly high gain stuff, I put a Chupacabra (Rat clone) ahead of it.

I think the OCD does light drive better than heavy drive. Just my .02 on that. YMMV.

wow. thanks for all the responses. I guess I'm gonna have to buy a OCD then!

What version? I saw Gearmandude's comparison and the only one that sounded markedly different is he V4. In his video, I liked V4 the least. But that's a video using camera audio into a dirty amp. not really apples to apples.

Thanks!
