value of an EVM 12L

I have a mint EVM 12L "series II"

This is not the re-issue, right?

What do you suppose it is worth, i.e., current market value? Anyone with recent experience selling a 12L ?

Thanks!

P.

I see them on eBay from $90 to $175 over the past 6 months ...

I was looking for one (and still may look for one) for use with a modeling solution. I believe my "cap" was $150 for one in really great shape. I traded a Weber Silver Bell Alnico straight up for one a while ago and we kind of agreed they both sat in the ~$150 range.

From prepal:
EVM-12L $119
Here is the link to prepal, if you ever need to know current market prices on most equipment

I took a risk on a re-cone unit from the bay for 90... turned out to be a very nice speaker.

I would not trust that site much. Funny how they list a Neumann U47 averaged at $2700... In reality they are 12k+.....

Plus... they are scraping the ASKING price, not what they sell for. There is often a considerable difference.

Prepal is showing the asking price, NOT the actual sale price?

yes... pricing comes from adds and auctions, but there are a lot more ads. FWIW... the auctions seriously skew the results downwards as the majority of time they list a price well below what it sells for.

"How it works
Once every night, the PrePal service goes out and retrieves any new items from several sources, including news groups (NNTP), auction sites, music sites with used gear boards, etc. After it creates a list of what it thinks could potentially be music items for sale, it tries to eliminate duplicate entries (ie; someone posting a forsale post on two different newsgroups, or on the newsgroups and a message board as well). After it's satisfied with the intermediate data, it attempts to identify manufacturers as well as products; if it's finds a sufficiently accurate match, it's added to the products entry in the database.
For those interested in seeing how much data the service runs through, and how accurately it's able to match with indexes products, check out the Statistics page, which is updated every time the site is regenerated."

Going away from the Prepal discussion, I've bought 4 EVs over the last few years (because they are awesome). Two 12Ls, one 12S, and a Series II. They all seem to be around the same price (except the S, which was a recone, and which also turned out well). Between $90 - $120. I wouldn't spend more than that one one, even if it's pretty clean. These are tough speakers, so unless it's been played hard enough for coil rub, thus needing a recone, it should be fine and last a long time.

I recently sold one on eBay for $103.50 (final price after 15 bids). Mine came in a '68 Pro Reverb amp I picked up on CL. Obviously not the original speaker, and doesn't fit the amp IMO.

For those disparaging prepal, it's a tool, a way to find out a rough asking price for equipment. Just as the OP asking on this sight how much an EVM12L is going for, it seems the price given on prepal and the prices stated by various posters are pretty much right in line.

Is it the end all of gear pricing? No, but it will get you in the ball park.
