Percussive Electric Playing

On acoustic I find it very natural and easy to be able to create cool percussive lines and riffs, the way you attack the strings makes a huge difference. When i try to do this on electric (especially w/ gain because of natural compression) I find it quite difficult, any tips on how to achieve percussive music on an electric?

palm muting, harmonics, picking at different spots, thumb-thumping, popping, rasguerdoes, not sucking, other stuff.

you can look up the techniques, but you still have to play until you don't suck. it's not tough. you just try it 50 different ways. shouldn't take you more than a minute. don't suck.

Heavy strings, and an open, transparent OD sound that's not too saturated.
