i didn't enjoy it.
interesting idea, obviously difficult to pull off, and ultimately this version doesn't work for me.

I didn't hate it, but I wouldn't buy it. And getting people to buy "it" is what this is all about.
Take a "can't lose" song like "STH" (there is almost a built in audience for the song). Add eclectic mix of musicians, shake or stir, or do both. Then work teh "pro toolz" to desired (or not so desired) effect. Funny when the producer guy said that Vai and Orianthi came as a "package deal".

Seems like they put way too much thought into doing this... I mean... I wish to never be in that position. If I want to record something, I go downstairs and I record it, or I email the lads and we get to record it, none of this 25 different brains telling us what to do.
Of course, that being said, I didn't really like it. |

No major objection to her take on the tune. Still fails for three reasons: 1 - If you're going to cover a heavy hitter like Stairway you'd better put a Very distinctive personal stamp on it (ala Cocker's With a Little Help From My Friends or Chicago's I'm a Man) and make that even better than the original, if possible Not the case here. Not even close 2 - Jeezus, did they rush badly just before the drums started up. Sounded like a bunch of amateurs....... 3 - Lame guitar solo. Just.......Lame |

Vai was there for moral support.
anyone else think Orianthi's playing looks frantic? Not knocking her, she sure as hell can play better than I can, but compared to say Vai or some of the others, she just seems like she's frantic or freaking out to me. |

Whack.
AND they should have let Vai hit that solo. At least he would have done it justice. Orianthi was just picked for publicity. |

Guess I'm not as critical.....in Randys words.....it aright dog.......I didnt find anything inspirational, exeptional, or different about it. The lead worked but wasnt anything special. I would rather have heard Bonamassas tone on it rather than that thin shredder tinny tone on the lead. Again, ok but nothing special for a remake of that song that is classic.
If this was American Idol....it would have gone like this. "Simon".....you didnt make it your own....it was rather kareoke to me....nothing memorable and you might not be around next week!! lol |
