They are great guitars, but I would never buy one new. 335 owners seem to take very good care of their guitars, and I have only seen a few used models that were beat up. The prices for new are way out of line IMHO.

Currently, I play a Hamer Echotone, which is a 335 copy. It is one of the best guitars I've played and it was cheap as hell. That said, if I had the money, I would get a Gibson. I guess we all feel the pull of the mighty G brand, despite knowing better.

If you're not sure, pick up an Epiphone Dot first and see how you like it, but try and get one made in Korea. If you like it, then go for a Gibson.

No 335 thread would be complete without big brother 355 making a showing. The 355 takes it to another level.

I thought so, that is, until I picked a '95 Sheraton.
Shortly thereafter, I sold my '06 ES335.

And I bleed Gibson...

My Epiphone Elitist 335 is an outstanding instrument. The craftsmanship level is pretty close to that of my Hamer Newport. I demo'ed a bunch of Gibson 335s over a couple of months with the single intention of buying a Gibson. When I tried this one my shopping was done. And it IS called a 335. This line was discontinued. These are available used for $900 to $1000.

OMG! Those bigsby ones with block inlays are just to dye for!

Hell yeah, they're worth it. The sound, the feel, the weight, and everything about it... You just gotta have a 335.

Don't mean to hijack this thread with a question, but sometimes I see 335's which are just plain red with no visible wood grain like the in the above post..

..sometimes they have a darker colour where you can clearly see the grain..

Is this just a difference in series/custom shop/colour thing or something else? Sometimes they have some flame in the wood too.

They're available with plain tops, or figured tops which are more expensive. There's also a satin finish model which is the less expensive than both.

Did Gibson make any recent 335s with that kind of trapeze tailpiece?
