JamMan Solo or JamMan users

I just picked up a Solo today, it's my first looper. I have never used one before, I got it for looping chord progressions for songs I'm working on, so I can work out new ideas.

What advice do you guy's for someone who has never used one before?

Cool things to do with a looper?

I love my JamMan - I have the non-Solo one. I just use it for jamming

I did a video explaining how to use you - you might find something in there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4Cjkn7AJAg

Question for you: do you know if the Solo takes a standard 9V input or does it require the big honking wallwart AC input that the non-Solo version requires?

Yes, it can run off a 9v patch from my PP2 power supply on pedal board.

I'll check out your video, I have to learn how to use this thing.

The Solo requires "less than 200 milliamps". So, a PP2+ using outputs 5 or 6 would be appropriate as they supply 250 mA, but I'd be wary about using 1-4 or 7-8, as they're rated at 100 mA.

I use 5 or 6 with my Solo and it works fine.

I should of said that, I forgot about that, thanks.

Have any Solo learning tips?

Oh, my use of the Solo is kinda primitive, I really haven't yet played with most of the functionality...

Pretty much I turn the guide volume all the way off, record something rhythmic, maybe (rarely) overdub a little, and then improvise. I've never even saved anything to non-volatile memory!

I like loopers for their ability to provide an instant backing track to whatever mood I'm in. I've owned more complex ones like the RC-50, but for my use, the Solo is almost perfect.

I say almost, because I'm still frustrated that there's no way to erase a loop in (volatile) memory without playing it back for the two seconds it takes to hold down the pedal in erase mode. I'm told the RC-2 has this limitation also.

I am interested in the solo pedal also. How is the sound quality? Is it something that could be used in a live setting?

Scott,

Nice demo video - I've had the JamMan for years, and it's been sitting in the closet. Your video made me pull it out again and realize why I got it in the first place. Thanks!

The RC-2 has a jack for an external pedal which gets rid of this issue. The RC-20XL does it without the external pedal.

Never used a Jamman, so can't comment

Slightly off topic... can you load a wav file on the SD card and play it back on the JamMan?

I've got a RC2 that I ended up just using for samples - some dialog from movies, keyboard loops etc. I don't really use it for guitar loops anymore, doesn't work with the drummer.

That's a good question- I'd like to know, too.

Hey - thanks. I just ordered the Solo. I hope to be able to get away from the wall wart that the bigger one has. I hate losing the dual input though.

Yes you can according to their docs. I haven't tried it but it says MP3s and WAVs work fine.

hi - boomerang

Hi - had the jam man, the solo and now the boomerang 3. the boomerang is the one to get and yes, is a little more $. you can delete mid phrase, you can queue up verse/chorus/bridge. it doesnt save if thats a requirement, but i've never been happier.
