Took the plunge, got me a Sweetwood Comet. WOW!

I tried this guitar a few weeks back at the Austin Amp Show. I tried a bunch of cool gear that weekend, but this guitar stayed on my mind. (I actually had a couple dreams about it .... I'm a little mental.) I finally said hell with it and contacted Sweetwood. They pulled it from the shop where it was hanging and sent it fed ex.

WOW. This thing is one of the best guitars I've played in my 32 years as a musician. This Comet has the most beautiful Red Heartwood top, The tone of which reminds me of some awesome hybrid of 30% Swamp ash and 70% Maple. This guitar sounds like a 40 year old guitar. It has an ebony fretboard, which usually is not my preference, but in this case balances GORGEOUSLY with the warmth of the Red Heart top.

-The Looks of this guitar are KNOCKOUT. The contours and headstock look SO much nicer in person. The attention to detail is unsurpassed.

-The playability: seriously the finest I've felt. Perfect action, even relief and radius.

-The Tone: Like a tight swampy Les Paul well, honestly better, and yes, I used to play a nice light 1957 goldtop. I gave ABR-1 guitars years ago. I'll NEVER go back.

It's kinda like a 50% Vintage Les Paul, 20% Tele. 5% Brian May's guitar 25%__________??!!!!

I have a wagon load of hot picker friends / fellow pro players here in Austin. Everyone who's tried it salivates, I continuously hear "This is one of the best guitars I've ever played."

I tried a dual p-90 Rock Rite that weekend too, nice!!! and jeesh, what a looker.

I think there's a vid of me playing this Comet some where, I'll post it when I find it so yall can check out the tone. I HIGHLY recommend this company and their simply amazing instruments.

Wow - beautiful. I can see the resemblance to Brian May's 'Red' special.

What a wide neck. It looks a bit like a classical guitar neck!

Here's the 2nd vid

I hope you dig.

Cyberferret: Thanks! The Nut is actually only 1 11/16 th's , like many of my favorite vintage Gibsons. It's quite comfy.
The amp was a Tonic Absinthe which was nice!

Thank you gentlemen. I put up a vid in the original post I'd like you guys to check out too. I think it shows off the headroom, this guitar goes from pretty to pit bull with a slight tweak of the volume knob, or by altering your pick attack... like no other. I also used a British Ball Breaker pedal on this one, which is very impressive and dynamic as well. If I had the bread at the time I would have bought the while dang rig, Absinthe and all!!!!!

Yes...nice kudos for Sweetwood.. Great axe. Congrats!

I am actually waiting for Glenn to deliver the Comet he is building for me.. I think this next week is delivery time!

I met Glenn at NAMM and then hooked up with him during a visit to L.A. to see some of his stuff....including your beautiful Redheart and Ash axe!

I could not resist the temptation. I sold off some gear and ordered a Comet from Glenn. I discussed my tastes and Glenn is making it happen.. He has worked with me on wood selection and all aspects of my guitar. I am really excited about it. He is an incredibly nice guy, who is a pleasure to work with....and his guitars are both beautiful and toneful.

BTW: The angles you took the pics at make the guitar look funny. It does look like a classical neck as CyberFerret suggested.

Axemeister: You won't regret it! I'd love to see a pic when it arrives.

JJH Boots: The pickups are Dimarzio .... Which are surprisingly sweet once you roll back the volume. The bridge , neck, and middle position are all pretty awesome. : )
I'm usually a P-90 guy , and I'm not missing any tone or articulation.

Sweetwood: Hey Glen, this guitar you built calls me out of bed at 4:39 in the morning. It's getting ridiculous, I can't put it down!!!

That's one heck of a guitar man...simple, slick and classy...and yes, red guitar rules! I wonder if sweetwood offers satin finishes for the comet?

Anything you want. I'm working on a new satin finish (like a piano rub) as we speak. I do a 2 part oil too. Similar to the stock of a gun.
