ES 335 Block Inlay- Lightest of the newer 335's?

An ES 335 Block Inlay model that weighed in at 7-7.5lbs sold recently in the Emporium. I'd love to find a 335 in this weight range!

Does anyone know if the Block Inlay 335's are generally the lightest of the newer 335's or is it just the luck of the draw?

I can speak from experience here; I previously owned the "60's Block" model in Iced Tea Burst, and currently own the 1963 Block Reissue in Antique Sunburst.

Yes both of them are featherweight for a 335, at under 8lbs. But also, neither of them sounded anything like the more modern Dot models, in fact they are tonally opposite. Both have a very bright, penetrating tone with very little low end - think a big, semi-hollow Tele (not necessarily a bad thing at all). The modern Dots (of which I've also owned a few) are more in the Les Paul camp with a much warmer, smoother tone and lots more low end.

They are entirely different beasts, and since I've owned more than one of each I'm pretty comfortable generalizing. Not sure if there's some differences in the construction, but it definitely seems that the consistantly lighter weight of these vintage-styled models goes along with a consistantly lighter, brighter tone.

Y'gotta figure: if it's characteristically different (weight) from another gtr, it probably won't sound like the other gtr, no?
