Best Looper both for practice and live.

Hi Guys

I need a looper for an upcoming project, and I am not sure which one to get. I have owned a Boss RC2, but I thought it sucked tone, and I got tired of that.

What other pedals should I check out? Perhaps the DL4? I love oz noy, and I he used to use a dl4, but now he uses the new line 6 board? I think that is probably a little more than I want to spend at the moment.

Any inputs is greatly appreciated

- Andreas

My favorite has been the DL4. But the Akai Headrush is also a great looper...KT Tunstall uses it live and really does sound like multiple guitars playing.

Thanks for the input. Anyone know if the m9 has the same looper as the dl4? It looks really great! Would also love to know if the m9 sucks tone ?

I will check out the Akai pedal!

live headrush or boomerang
Personally the head rush is easiest to use and has a quick undo

I use a boomerang II plus. Had two different DL-4's (one keeley modded) and they both had the same problem. Get a couple of loops recorded and the original starts getting fuzzy and clips. I have mentioned this on TGP before and always seemed to be alone in this, but after two of them doing it, I bought the boomerang. It works perfect and I love it.

I recently ordered a Zvex lo-fi loop junky, might not really be what you're looking for.

It doesn't suck tone from your dry signal since it's analogue but it's loop is limited to 20sec with lo-fi sound which might be a dealbreaker if that's not specifically what you're looking for in a looper.

I had an RC-2 and sold it because the loop sounded so much like my dry signal
that i had to fiddle with volume and tone knobs.

I also found myself having to constantly go down to the floor and adjust things on the RC-2 with my hands, and I couldn't have it in my lap because I needed to use my foot to start/stop recording while playing.

The new Digitech solo seems like a superior pedal to the RC-2 if you liked the idea of the RC-2

I've had a Loop Junky (cool but not practical for everything), Boss, Digitech (both good for some things), just bought a 2880 and I'm still experimenting with that but a guy I worked with last week has the new Boomerang and it sounds pretty killer.

Yeah the lo-fi loop junky is basically only good if that's what you're after i'm a bit hesitant to mention it as a general looper

i just got an EH16DDL-reissue. absolutely love it. but i use it more for abstract noise loops & stuff.

there is no best looper.

i had a boss rc20-the original one w/ 4 min of record time, it was ok
it depends on your needs/wants. if you're playing/singing live, and need something to stomp on the boss rc units are good, and i'm sure the digitech jamman series is also probably good. i've never tried the jamman, only heard things.....

happy hunting....

Agreed. Are you going for hi-fi or lo-fi? The Boss RC-50 is great for hi-fi full band stuff and samples/backtracks (orchestral, wicky-wicky beats, etc). Main outs go to amp or PA and monitor outs can have click (or built in drum machine) to keep everyone in time. Or kill your drummer and replace him with a drum machine and synch it up via MIDI. I currently have a little RC-2 I just use for riff writing. It would be tough using that for anything in a full band besides an opening riff or sample.

My favorite looper out of the ones I have used so far is the one in the M13.

It's starting to look like this...

http://www.digitech.com/products/Pedals/JamManDelay.php

The sound quality of the JamMAN Solo is excellent. I'd imagine the above would be great if looping were your focus, although I do wonder whether the JamMAN Stereo would be better; do I really want to integrate my delay with my looper?

I replaced my Time Machine delay and my RC-2 with the Boss DD-7.
It gives you 40 sec of loop time compared to 20 sec on other delay pedals.
Very simple to use. With 40 sec you can loop an entire 12 bar blues progression as slow as 72 bps.I have mined paired with a Carbon Copy and couldn't be happier.

The M13 looper crushes the DL4 in every way. I believe the M9 duplicates most of the M13's functionality.

Personally I can't figure why or how L6 is even selling the DL4 anymore since the M9 is clearly superior and IMO a direct replacement/competitor.

I haven't tried the new jamman but I had the old one and again the M13 is just miles above especially in terms of ease of use.
