Do you mean .m4p? as in itunes protected? or do you mean .m4a? lots of things can do .m4a to mp3, like foobar, which is free (just make sure to download the latest LAME mp3 codec separately, because the download doesn't come with it).

You can do it yourself if you have the patience. Just burn an Audio CD of your M4P's then rip that disc back into MP3 format. The software that you can buy that does this automatically creates a virtual CD drive and does a virtual burn and re-rip. But be forwarned that transcoding from one lossy format to a different one (regardless of how high your bit rate is on the re-rip) is going to give you suboptimal quality. worse than the original.

I would start buying my digital music from Amazon. They have everything and it comes down in high quality MP3 format. Slightly less convenient than iTunes, but sounds like you don't have an iPod/iPhone?
