*New* 3 Monkeys Orangutan 1x12" - Greg V Demo

Greg takes the amp from cleans all the way through the highest gain the amp is capable of with Bass Lift engaged *and* the Volume "on 10" getting in to a borderline fuzzface territory; especially when he hits those pinch harmonics at the end of his solo (minute: 7:25) and gets a natural Octafuzz tone.......very Jeff Beck-like in that he gets a pure effect pedal tone straight from his hands.

Hope you enjoy it:

Splendid! Greg need to do a new CD with all the cool amps he has been demoing for you Stu. How did he get those octavia sounds at 7:25-unreal!!

I would love to hear him through the Grease Monkey also. A pale yellow Grease Monkey combo with the crushed glass panels would be unreal for me! B-day is in February!!

BTW-how is Greg down in Nashville? Hope he didn't lose anything in the flooding.

Todd,

Greg's doing fine. No flood damage fortunately!
We have one amp or guitar after another lined up for Greg to demo so we'll be releasing these on a regular basis. We definitely have a Grease Monkey on the books and I like your Pale Yellow idea. That would look sweet!
Thanks for the comment.

Pale Yellow suede like Lance's head and cab. Will the Grease Monkey work with a 1x12 combo design-I think it is about 35 watts so I guess the speaker will handle that power.

Big range of tones. Some of which I just would not have thought were coming from a 6V6 amp.

Also, I love the way the reverb is voiced with that amp. Firstly it's not too splashy and bright. Secondly it's almost like it ducks out of the way of the front end of the note.

When I've had amps with reverb I almost always end up turning it down to almost nothing or off for harmonic overdrive because otherwise things get too messy and undefined but with the Orangutan I could see myself running it much higher. It almost does sound like a studio "room" reverb with a pre-delay at the front and EQ'd to taste.

Like Todd I'd love to hear the Grease Monkey in this format too as I'm traditionally an EL84 guy but wouldn't mind an amp like that with an expanded vocabulary if it has anything like the versatility of the Orangutan.

You know, the only suede 3 Monkeys that really did anything for me have been the red suede combos, but just like tone......this stuff is subjective. I do, however, like the idea of a pale yellow tolex and may pursue that when we get done with the batch we have going now.

Unfortunately a 1x12 combo version of the Grease Monkey isn't possible without making a special, and seriously oversize cabinet due to the proximity of the speaker to the tubes and transformers.

Absolutely. It does, in fact, do a brilliant job of ducking the attack when you are digging in and overdriving the amp yet when you play clean you can get just the perfect amount of reverb and rather than have any sproing to it it really does sound much more like a "room"...... as the reverb control is aptly named.

It's the only amp I've ever owned where I can play early 70's rock-n-roll rhythm or distorted Texas Blues while leaving the reverb turned on. Interesting design in both the reverb's tone and ducking abilities.

Thank you Jim!

Greg puts a tremendous amount of work into these with each one taking 3-4 days from start to finish. He's become quite the multi-talent! Photographer, Videographer, Player, Voice Over, Sound Engineer and Editor. Whew!

We hope that the end result is helpful as well as entertaining!

Dayum....now you guys know what I've been hearing for two years in my living room!!! Minus the virtuoso playing of course by Greg V!! You haven't experienced all it has to offer until you hear the Orangutan into a 4x12 straight cab with old greenbacks...fantastic cleans and crunch and driven tones...one amp, no effects needed. Depending on speaker config, I attenuate a hair live, but the combo is well under the decibel police level and perfect (like the 2x12) for live work. This amp sits in a mix exceptionally well...anyway, super clips Stu and Greg, and hats off to Greg Howard and Ossie Ahsen at 3 Monkeys!

There's no doubt that Greg has the video presentation nailed. Seamless editing, great video and still angles and a concise and articulate explanation of the features of each product. For me the real kicker though is how Greg is able to translate all of those 'nuts and bolts' features into music. That's where things go beyond the technical into artfulness and musicality.

These amps sre the best sounding (on the internet, anyway!) I've come across since I stumbled on Redplate. Any chance they will be distributed in the U.K. one day?

Great video. After seeing that, I am even more stoked that mine is on the truck and scheduled for delivery tomorrow.
