Sabbath with Dio. Discuss

I'm not real fond of Dio era Sabbath.

Discuss. Like it? Not like it? Why?

To me, it's similar to the Kiss transition of With to without make-up. Just...was a different band altogether.

What do you think?

Ozzy? Or Dio?

PS: Don't get me wrong, I do LOVE Dio's voice!

To me, Sabbath is Sabbath as long as Tony & Geezer are in the band.

They are the band's core sound.

Regarding the Dio era, I liked it.

Theres no question that Dio has a far better voice than Ozzy.

E5150, Die Young, The Mob Rules, Sign Of The Southern Cross....love them all.

Hell, I pretty much enjoy all of Sabbath.

The song "Heaven and Hell" was the zenith of songwriting for Black Sabbath... Sabbath was just a better band with Dio... (But then, any band would likely get better with Dio in the line-up...) Dio: The best voice in rock music - ever...

I dig it, but it's so different from the Ozzy stuff. That's a credit to Tony & Geezer to pull it off with completely different types of vocalists. Heaven & Hell is probably the best album they did with that line up front to back, but those opening drums on the Mob Rules record just knock me out every time.

While I like Ronnie, Ozzy was the voice of Sabbath. Dio totally smoked in Richie Blackmore's Rainbow though!

When they were on, I think its hard to top the magic there was with Ozzy era Sabbath. But I'm also a huge fan of anything involving Dio so I can't help but love the Dio era as well. I do kind of think of it being two different bands, both very different but both f'n great!

Dio era Sabbath is every bit as good, if not better than Ozzy era. Heaven and Hell is easily as much a classic as Paranoid.

Well, you're talking two different things here..

First, there's Black Sabbath's first 9 albums with Ozzy. Absolutely classic stuff. It belongs in it's own little category.

THEN!!! There's another band called Black Sabbath, with amazing albums like Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules...with Dio singing. Absolutely classic stuff. It belongs in it's own little category.

Thankfully..we can have them both. They're both great, in different ways.

Technically, Dio is a far better singer and really adds to a song. But Ozzy somehow managed to make his mark with the skills he had..and it worked out pretty good.

Rainbow is the same way. There was Rainbow with Dio, and Rainbow without Dio. Both are good..but you can't compare them.

Just think of them as 2 different bands and enjoy them both.
