Talking Tell me about your Godin LG P90

Yesterday I closed a deal for a used Godin LG P90. Now I have to wait for it to be delivered and the waiting is making me crazy.

Anyone that has experience with these guitars can help me survive the wait by telling me about it. Please? Any recommendations for upgrades or setup? How does it feel in the hands? How does it play? Arrrrgh!

I currently have a Godin LG and have owned others. I do not have a P90 Godin, but I have played one. Nice guitars and great buys.

Most of the Godin necks are somewhat full modified D shape, and the fretboard has a flattish radius, at first it might feel like work, but somehow it becomes really familiar and very easy to play. Everyone thinks of the Godins for their multiple voicings, but I think just about all of the Godin's are great guitars...

Can't say how it sounds. I have two LGs... one's from '98 and is 24 frets, the other is ten years younger and is 22 frets. Both are humbucker-equipped. Very comfortable guitars, I find. You should be happy but you never know. Some people don't like their ergocut necks.

I currently have a Richmond Dorchester which is made by Godin and has an Ergocut neck. It's really comfortable for me and beautifully finished. If the LG P90's neck is anything like it- I'll love it. The Dorchester's fretboard feels wide to me and I like that.

Thanks for the replies everybody.

I have had a number of Godins. I had (really regret letting it go) a LG hmb. It was amazing. I have a Dorchester and agree with Alex_F's comments. I have a Kingpin II with P90's. The guitar (and PU's) is fantastic. Godin's are great value, considering their price (and that they are made in NA). Once it arrives, let us know how it plays.

Godin LG-P90?

I had one a few years back ... imho, felt like playin' a Les Paul Special/Junior ... sounded like a beefy Tele ... rugged and durable ....definitely affordable.

Another one of those guitars that got traded-out during a bad g.a.s. attack .... but definitely one that would be welcomed back to the fold.

cheers always, eh

Joel

Should have claimed one back last September- Best friend owned one, and he was murdered. I have another P90 guitar that I'm happy with, so I let his widow give it to a relative. One hell of a nice guitar, for sure.

Very well built guitar. Flat neck radius, which I like but some may not. The fret markers are toward the side of the fretboard rather than in the middle. The pickups are not as raw sounding as Gibson P-90s, somewhat smoother.

I wouldn't upgrade anything unless you need something like locking tuners.

I don't have one only because I couldn't bond with the neck. If they made a version with a big fatty I'd be all over it. The one's I played were excellent build quality and sounded superb! Great guitars regardless of price IMHO. I just didn't like the neck.

Bought and sold one a couple of years ago. I found that the long neck pocket limited upper fret access a bit. Plus, mine had a fretboard that wasn't glued down from the 16th fret to the 22nd, but Godin fixed it under warranty with no questions asked. A nice guitar for the price, but I didn't keep it very long.

The LG P90 arrived last Wednesday and I couldn't be happier with it. This might just be the honeymoon period (I don't think so) but this thing is now my #1. It dethroned my Richmond Dorchester which cost 2 1/2 times as much.

It's a late 2007 and has a few nicks but nothing ugly. This way I won't feel bad when I drop it! It fits me like a glove.

The neck is awesome- pretty flat with a 16 inch radius. I like how a big radius makes a neck feel wider even when it isn't. It's hard to photograph black guitars well and I like the looks of this thing way better in person. I like how the understated blacked-out-ness is set off by the cream binding.

Acoustically it's about the most lively guitar I've played. All mahogony with a string-through body. Sounds beautiful unplugged. Plugged in it can do it all. Rawk. Blues. With the volume rolled back a little Jazz chords sound warm and sweet. The Duncan P90s work great with the warm sound of the mahogany. All three switch positions sound great and very distinct.

I won't be putting this one down for a long time.

How's the neck access like from the 12th frets onwards and how you find the weight? It's an interesting axe apart from the usual les paul style of guitar.

I have one and I absolutely love it. It is kind of a cool story because I recently sold off the last of my guitars keeping only a tele my dad gave me more for sentimental reasons than anything else. The last one to sell was my sg which was my undisputed number one. I loved that thing but times are tough. Anyway the very next day I wandered into a consignment store looking for something else and found this godin. It is awesome and I like it way better than any of my others and they all cost many times more than this one. I have always liked godin guitars and mine is sweet. I need nothing else. I changed all the plastics to cream stuff I had laying around and am planning on changing the bridge to nickel when I find one. Nothing wrong with the bridge but the black clashes with cream. Love the way it looks, sounds and plays. Could go on and on but I'll stop now.
