Advice for swapping/selling a guitar
I love the way my Anderson Hollow Classic plays and feels, but I'm just not in love with the tone. I guess I'm more a two humbucker kind of guy.
Factor in a limited budget that leads me more towards swapping than swap plus cash. Factor in not wanting to be without a guitar for a couple of weeks. I know swapping pickups is an option, but I feel like I'd be diminishing the value of the guitar if it was no longer original. I'm kind of leaning towards looking for a USA Hamer Studio or a Les Paul, but I have this nagging thought that I'd be making a mistake if I were to part with the Andy. Of course, if I could find the right deal for a Cobra w/ two humbuckers (or maybe even P90's) that would be a no brainer. Anyways, back to my question. When you guys have had doubts, do you just dive into the trade waters, or do you really hem & haw? |

I wait until I'm about 900% sure I can part with the guitar. Latest one took me a year to get to that point.
Don't rush. That said, that guitar will be relatively easy to trade for what you want I'm guessin'. Another Anderson?

I agree with the Don't rush statement by Pietro.
I change my mind a lot about my gear, it's funny how I'm convinced I gotta sell one item, then remove it from Craigslist a few days later, and then it's back on... and I finally regret selling it. You might not change your mind as often if you only have one guitar or amp

+1000 I have guitars that I have literally not played for a year, and think "gee, I should sell this since it's not getting the love" ... and then pick up that guitar and go "holy crap, this guitar is amazing !" and play the hell out of it again ....
I have sold a few guitars, but it's because the quality and tone weren't there... In your case since you don't dig the tone, you might have your answer... but I'd say give it time too... |

if you don't really bond with a guitar that's no sin it happens, no matter how nice the guitar might be. trading can be a geat idea however when you get up to that level of value finding someone to trade wit could be problem. i just traded my 92 Hamer Diablo for an 88 Strat + today. the Diablo is a great guitar but no longer me. will i regret it maybe but then i'll just play the strat and that should remind me in no time why i did it.
