I'm wondering how irreversibly the body on this Strat has been routed? Or, if it's been routed at all... I can't really tell. Clearly it started off as as a vintage trem body.

Pictures are below - does anyone know if this could be reversed back to a standard trem or hardtail? Note that the ruler in the first two pics shows how far out the trem hole goes.

What would be the point in reverting it back to an inferior trem?

The Floyd is basically a Fender style trem that locks the strings at both ends and it will stay in 100% tune.

Pretty plain and simple.

Nice one man! I would've kept the Floyd and changed the pickups if I was you but hey!

Yeah, I probably would've searched for a Bartolini HB to go with the neck & mid singles and slapped it in. Possibly gone for a Jumbo refret too.

Lovely guitar though.

Well it's definitely a steal. There's a 79 strat with the same modifications in Toronto right now, 700$

Very cool result... Nice job!

I have an earlier 70's strat ('74 I think) that i am looking to do a similar thing.. though a little trickier as it's been routed for the Kahler! Probably refill the hole and put on a more traditional trem. Locking nut is already gone and they obviously had to remove the bullet head truss rod cover. It has 18v Seymour Duncans in it - 2 batteries - but even with those it and the trem it's not an overly heavy guitar.

Just wanted to say nice job, and that you have motivated me to bring mine back a little!

Hell, Gilmour's famous black Strat has a filled-in Kahler route. I would do it in a heartbeat.

I have always had every intention of doing it... it's just getting the time... maybe in the next few months! I hate that Kahler monstrosity with a passion!

I had no idea Gimlour's had had that done though- interesting! Thanks

Great thread - Congrats on the craigslist score, and nice work/good call on the bridge/nut restorations.

nice guitar, esp. since you enjoy it so much. Hopefully the repairs were not a devastating outlay.

Congrats!
