what pedal will get me closest to Boss Vibrato?

Without handing over a healthy chunk... What pedal will get me close to the BOSS Vibrato?

I have heard the Bheringer is similar... but i want something a little nicer. Malekko?

BYOC Vibrato. It's a true-bypass clone with an extra switch for the ramp setting.

Yup, BYOC VB-2 clone. If interested, contact Scott at axeandyoushallrecieve.com

The BYOC is one of their more difficult kits. It sounds just like a VB-2 though, but a bit noisier, at least the one I had was. I've heard the Malekko and Diamond pedals are very similar. The BBE Mind Bender doesn't sound exactly like one, but is also in the same ballpark, also does chorus and can be found for $50 used.

The VB-2 I played sounded great, but was a little noisy, and the volume seemed to drop just a hair. I bought the Diamond Vibrato, which is a wonderful pedal. It does the VB thing and more. I highly recommend it if you can afford it.

I really don't use it like it is used in this video, but it does however show it's range.

John Fromel built me a BYOC VB-2. It's awesome.

How about the Vibrato mode on a Univibe clone? Wouldn't that be close?

I built it. First build project ever. My soldering experience is next to none, but I practised a bit by desoldering components from old PCB:s from old, discarded hifi-gear/vcrs etc. All I used was a basic beginners set. (The vacuum pump for removing solder was good to have.).

Whether it's hard or not, I can't compare. Lots of components. I decided to take it real slowly and only worked for an hour at a time. I felt it was hard to concentrate longer than that when being a beginner.

I knew I would never find the error if I made a mistake so I soldered a few components at a time. Examined every joint with magnifying glass etc.

Worked like a clock on first power-up. Sounds great too. A bit bigger than a real VB-2, but true bypass.

/C
