OD's for Blackface Bandmaster...satisfaction...for now :)

So through much trial and error over the past month, I am pretty sure I have conquered my dirt needs with my '63 blackface Bandmaster and semi-hollowbodies in 2 pedals. It has been a struggle to find something to mesh with my '82 Sheraton and my 335, but I have found it in my Timmy for low gain/dirty booster and a V1 Catalinbread DLS for the higher gain stuff. By the way, they stack amazingly! Doing mostly straight forward hard rock for reference. Let me know your favorite dirt for your blackface.

PS Got a Deluxe Memory Boy and it freakin' rocks!!

just got a '66 bandmaster so....

...and while it's a bit of an overstatement to say that all of the pedals that sing on my '68 twin sound bad on my bf b'master, they do sound different.

Sort of confirms my "theory" that it's bad to sell off pedals, you never know when that 10th od you have in the drawer will be "the one".

Yeah for sure....there are definitely some pedals that I wish I hadn't sold off but can't live with regrets....

If you haven't yet, I encourage you to try out a DLS with the Bandmaster...I was pleasantly surprised after going through at least 8 overdrives before that...

Boost > 65 Bandmaster ( 8 o'clock on the volume) > 4x12 (greenbacks) closed back cab. Almost more Jimi Hendrix than Jimi Hendrix, at least when you're standing in front of it. Always found the dirt pedals to sound fake with mine at lower volumes, it's such a warm and pretty sound down there.

GA20T...you are fortunate to be able to open the amp up to 8!! The clubs and venues here in Nashvegas would never invite me back if I had my stage volume that loud. I only get the chance to crank it at home. She sure sings when I do, though.

I have a 66 Bandmaster I like the following drives the best:

Crowther Hot Cake for super rad crunch tones.

Pro Co Rat 2 for more saturated tones and feedback.

I have really wanted to try a Hotcake but I had the opportunity to snag the DLS and it is not going anywhere for now. But I hope to try it out soon. I am thinking about picking up a new cab. What do you guys think about Jensens with the Bandmaster?

Okay so I have two new pedals on their way, so here are some of the dirt (not just OD) pedals that I'm planning to run thru the BM...let the battle begin for space on my pedalboard:

AnalogMan Boss SD-1 TS-808/Silver mod w/ symmetrical/asymmetrical clipping
Jetter Gain Stage Red
Keeley Boss SD-1 w/Diode Switch
MJM Phantom Overdrive
Analogman Boss BD-2 Blues Driver
Les Lius
Keeley Fuzz Head
AnalogMan Boss DS-1 w/ Pro mod
Keeley Boss DS-1 ULTRA Mod
MJM London Fuzz
Pro-Co Rat 2
Pig Mine

It's going to be a loud weekend....

So much for "satisfaction...for now" but yes I'll post if I have anything remotely profound to post.

On paper it seems like a good match....this is one of the pedals that is on it's way to me. So I have had zero time with it.

The Hot Cake is my favorite pedal. But I don't like it at all with ten inch speakers. Its doo doo with my Super reverb. My DLS is ok but not great with tens either in my opinion. With 10's the only livable pedal I have found so far is the Signa Drive. Everybody hears something different, so best of luck to you. I'm still searching with the Super for the tone I want. By the way I play les pauls and Gretsch's through it. That makes a difference too. Some pedals might sound good through single coils.

Hey scratch that...My mind said Bassman when you typed bandmaster. I was thinking you have tens..the Hot Cake is way smoother than the DLS not better for everything, its slightly more compressed and less open, but in a great way. the Hot Cake may be just the ticket. To me the DLS is Free "alright now" and the Hot Cake is the solo in "We are the Champions" Course I'm saying this when using a Vox AC30. Don't have a bandmaster.

take a look at the jetter line of pedals. i believe brad designed most if not all of the pedals around blackface amps.

i have a 68 bassman, and I've tried a bunch of OD's with it so far (eternity, fulldrive, maxon od808, danoTO-1) and the best yet has been the Nobels ODR-1. A lot of things err on the shrill/brittle side with it.
