70's Bassman 100 Head advice

Yo! A friend of a friend has a 70's Bassman 100 head that he wants to unload. The caps are going bad (as told by the sound of the amp as well as the amp tech that checked it out last year). It has brand new tung-sol tubes and seems to work fine otherwise. He wants $150 for it...

Just curious if someone has an idea about what it would cost to do a complete cap job (assuming I source the parts myself)? I know it's a case by case deal, I'm just looking to see if $150 is worth it, or if that'll be a bit too much after repairs.

Thanks!

Full cap job...tubes...grounded cord, etc. All told, in the NYC area, figure $250 +/-

Not to be mercenary about it, but if you pass, I'll take it.

Grab it. Mod the normal channel to ab763 specs abd you have a non reverb twin for cheap! You can cap it yourself for about 60 bucks for really good caps and about 30 for average caps.

Haha, right on. It actually already has the grounded chord and ALL the tubes are brand new. I guess for around $200 it's probably worth it...

Nice! I thought the caps would be more expensive, but that sounds perfect! Thanks!

One - For $150 buy the amp. This isn't a big dollar sooper collectible at the moment, but a damn fine loud clear amp worth more than that and more than the cost to buy and overhaul it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "what it would cost to do a complete cap job (assuming I source the parts myself)." If you order the parts yourself and hand them to a tech it will not reduce cost of the job by as much as you might think. After you pay for shipping on small parts which will only save you money if your shop is counting on the revenue of parts mark-up ....

Typical big Fender with bad caps, set aside $200-250 for it to be recapped and gone through, depending on condition and location.

Understood... I guess I was thinking that if I spent some time searching for the best caps for the best prices it might save me a few bucks over the tech doing the same thing. At any rate, it seems $150 is worth it...

Thanks!
