Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb : Reverb driver tube help!
Hey guys,
just bought a Fender CVR, and even if it's stock (I mean no "Mark Moyer mods" here for now), I'm very happy with it... except for the reverb, that sounds pretty weak I think... So I'm considering replacing the 12AT7 by a JJ 12AX7. Is it possible, without changing anything else, I mean any resistor value or so? Sorry for the rookie question guys, I'm no tube specialist at all! Last edited by Soulboogaloo; 06-04-2010 at 02:42 PM. |

It's usually suggested to stay away from 12AX7's for the reverb tube. I don't know about that amp, but maybe there is a problem with the tank. I'd open it up and see if there are loose springs or a bad connection somewhere. Or try a different 12AT7, maybe the tube is bad (but I doubt it).

Well... it's not a strong reverb. Just turn the knob further up. It won't work like a BF reverb where the entire usable range lies between 3 and 4 on the dial. But, push it to 4, 5, maybe even 6 and see what you think.
I think the 'verb is one of the best features of that amp because it's so much more subtle. |
