Speaker question?

This may sound silly,,lol, I have a pair of old black widow speakers and wondered what would happen if I replaced the nasty 30 year old mesh dust covers with JBL Alum dust covers?

Ive swapped out dust caps before. However I went in the other direction. The speakers had small ,thick paper caps which seemed to stiffen the cone a bit. They were very dark and tight sounding. i swapped them with large screen type caps and they actually got brighter and a bit looser sounding. Im not quite sure how a speaker would react to aluminum caps. If they sound good to you I'd leave them alone. Bob

Was I crazy? I began to wonder, for such an appalling lack of perspective seemed near being just that.
