VMSD vs Fuchs Replay JR

Andy's demo of the Replay JR, and also several other demos of the big Replay (same audio circuit), sounds really good. So I started thinking... since I only really use the VMSD for the TAPE modes, AND since the 2 share some cool features:

Fidelity adjustment (Fuchs is a knob, VMSD is the Tape mode switch)
Amount of modulation (Fuchs is 2 knobs, VMSD is 2 switches)
Both have Tape Tempo
Both are the same price

... my big wonder is, is the ****s warmer? Especially due to the tube? My only realy complaint with the VMSD (and others have verified it), it adds a slight bit of high-end, and if anything I'm a "takes away a bit of high end" guy... hmm...

Discuss? I know there's alot of VMSD users & tape delay feinds here!

I played the demo Fuchs solid state unit - my only issue with that unit (which, btw, can 100% nail the vmsd tape mode b, no mod, no filter) was the first repeat, even with the fidelity at zero, was still a little too clear for my taste. Not sure if the tube units sounds the same, or if the full production units have that clear first repeat.

Since you own the VMSD, you might just pick one up from a vendor with a return policy and compare them.

I knew someone had tried the SS unit with less-than-stellar results (when compared to the Skrecho & VMSD). Does the SS unit have the fidelity control? Seems like between the Echo level & Fidelity, a dark enough 1st repeat would be possible?

I might just do that... shootout w/VMSD if I can use a return policy.

I didn't have less than stellar results, I haven't posted any thoughts on it at TGP since it was a pre-production unit, so Andy may have made changes.

That said, I thought it was a good sounding unit (esp on cleans) and if the fidelity control could get the tone to be darker/smoother, I'd consider getting one (if I didn't already have the axe-fx that replaced all my fx). I like that you have continuously variable control over repeats tone and modulation vs the fixed switches on the vmsd.

My mistake. I didn't know you had a pre-prod. unit. And when I said "less than stellar", I just remebered some criticism that kept someone (maybe it wasn't you) from choosing the JR over the VMSD. But if it was a pre-prod unit, all bets are off.

And the darker/smoother thing you mention is exactly why I'm seriously looking at the JR. Andy has said the tube units are a bit "softer & smoother" than the SS unit. It seems to me the JR has the serious potential to be an "improved" version of the tape modes on the VMSD, which is all I'm looking for... I don't use anything else on the VMSD.

Are you thinking about selling the VMSD by chance? If so, pm me. Not sure I'm quite ready, but will be soon.

LOL. Not anytime soon. But if I DO get a Replay JR, and like it better than the VMSD, I will be selling the VMSD... but it may be awhile.

Anybody know if the Replay JR is even shipping yet? I can only find the Replay & REP-3 at retailers.
