Bob Dylan
When I first heard Elvis' voice I just knew that I wasn't going to work for anybody; and nobody was going to be my boss. Hearing him for the first time was like busting out of jail.

Johnny Carson
If life was fair, Elvis would be alive and all the impersonators would be dead.

What's not generally discussed is how influential he was on young men of the day. I was just an impressionable little kid when he first hit, but boy, I could sure see it. That hoodlum stance, the pomped hair, the sneering, go-to-hell grin.... any parking lot had a dozen Elvises standing around, looking tough.

That's why his post-Army change was so tough for me to take.
The finale, where he was wearing those Evel Knievel outfits, man, that was REAL tough to take.

Elvis died in 1959 or so.
Briefly came out of the grave for a couple of hours in 1968, and then died again.

I wanted to name one of our kids Elvis.

Mrs. Frankee was vociferously opposed.
