Ebay Best Offer Weirdness

This has happened to me too many times to be coincidence.

Seller lists a guitar for say $2000 and adds a "Best Offer" button.

I submit offer for $1600: declined
I submit offer for $1700: declined
I submit offer for $1800: declined

Auction closes with no sale. Seller then relists. I decide that I gotta have it.

I submit offer for $1900: declined!

Am I missing something here? Is there some secret benefit to having a "Best Offer" button but not accepting any offers? I've seen this with lesser items too. I tried to offer $375 on an Apogee Duet that was BIN for $400 or Best Offer - declined. If you won't accept an offer $25 less than the BIN, why allow offers?

My I've been listed on some "Whatever you do, don't accept offers from GAD" newsletter.

Try $2100? They just be dumber then then then something really dumb.

I like the automated decline, so they have a limit set and it just says no right away. But you only get three chances to figure the lowest they'll go so you try three times and sorry, move along ...

Well if your selling something for $2000 an offer of $1900 should be accepted IMO...otherwise DONT BOTHER using the best offer feature!! whats the lowest he will go then? $1999

Obviously people (you said it has happened more than once) who list their items have zero idea what best offer means. Curious as to why they put that on there in the first place - makes no sense at all.

He probably figures if you're offering $1900 and he wants $2000, you'll end up paying the extra hundred if he refuses the offer. It's just foolish greed, really.

The seller obviously doesn't understand the function of the "Best Offer". Not suprising...

That's kind of like the opening bid of $99 and BIN of $100. What's the point?

Almost as bad as the people who have a $1500 guitar and list it as $3000 or best offer. In the case of this post I think the guy just didn't know how it works. I don't use that function because I got messed up on it once too. I guess I really didn't read thru it and listed an item that way with my lowest accepted offer. I thought I would be able to negotiate the offers. Sort of a screening process for the really low ones. Someone placed a bid and bang the auction ended.

I'd bet he thinks best offer OVER 2k. Like a bidding war.

I've noticed that too..... I have gotten a few good deals over the years with the best offer, but most of the time, they are denied.
