The EJ show was fantastic! EJ, Latyon,, & Nelson performed those songs as perfect as they could be played. An incredible turnout for a weeknight show.
It's my favorite city. The people, food, & music are great. There's never a problem finding something to do.
I try to get over there a couple of times a year. Hopefully, I can make it back for the Arc Angels on the 10th.
Folks that live there are very fortunate to be in such a beautiful area of the country. If I could afford to pick up and move to one place, the Austin area would be my choice. Life seems so good there.

There are a ton of Austin musicians that do well. The Scabs charge like $30 at Antones and sell out?

I was lucky to get to ACL in 2008... I saw the Scabs at Antones on a Thursday night.. I still tell my friends that they are if not the best certainly one of the best bands I have ever seen... Love their energy...

Austin is no paradise. I lived there for several years and although I did enjoy some music while I was there, I did not enjoy the oppressive police. To use the word "police state" would not be an exaggeration.I also did not enjoy the huge (and growing) homeless presence everywhere. When I lived there the homeless and panhandlers were centered primarily around downtown. On my last visit, they were all the way out in Leander where my wife's family lives. I love Texas, but Austin I prefer to visit. Besides, from what I hear the new city ordinance that they're strictly enforcing has done away with much of the live outdoor venues.

Yeah, that is all thanks to the revitalization of the downtown area, which comes down to people buying half a million dollar condos next to live music venues...then complaining that the music is too loud and being played too late at night?

Austin, TX... highly over rated opinion of itself as "the live music capital of the world". If you're into singer/songwriter music... or guitar wanking (ala Eric Johnson)... or way over rated so called "psychedelic" music ala Roky Erikson... ehh... it's so-so. And all those bands listed in the Chronicle playing at the clubs? Believe me... many are not so hot.

We do get some good touring bands once in a while. Nels Cline Singers actually made it down here once. Saw an awesome show by Charles Lloyd at Hogg Auditorium a few months ago. But I'd say there's no more than any other decent sized city.

Much rather be in New York where you could catch cutting edge people like Jim Campilongo, Nels Cline, Marc Ribot, John Zorn, Jamie Saft, DJ Logic, Medeski jamming with other players, among many, many others, on a regular basis.

Austin being the "live music capital of the world" is a joke.

Yep. This is very true. You have a lot of bands that do the punk-we've been playing for a week-sound going on.

The whole Live Music Capital of the World is really just a marketing ploy.

I disagree totally.

There is SO MUCH Quality Music, Talent and shows in a close area,
I am amazed

You really have to keep an open mind (which I don't have myself)
But a lot of the bands I really like were discovered by accident,
usually an opening band that I never heard of, and liked better than the big show

But on any given night you have a VERY LARGE selection of Music.
I go to 3 times as many shows here than anywhere else I've lived.

I lived in New York, Southern California ....

Out of curiosity, if Austin isn't the Music Capital... where is ?
I'm thinkin yall are going to say Nashville

I thought New Orleans was my favorite city... until I visited Austin for the ACL fest last year. Them Crooked Vultures at Stubb's, Dan Auerbach at Antone's, Medeski Martin & Wood, the Dead Weather, Kings of Leon, and Pearl Jam pretty much tore the place down at the end.

I really fell in love with the town. I wasn't expecting the hills, the trees and all that water. The food and the people were wonderful.

I cannot wait to go back.

Austin is UNIQUE!!!
IMHO, the best city (at least for me) to live. Music, nice weather, good food (BBQ, Tex-Mex, etc.) and really nice people.
I love it! I didn't born here, but my soul probably did.
Cheers,
Oz
