Axe-FX 10.01 Ultra Shiva

I'm a guy that owned, played and loved the Shiva. Warts and all. Owned 3 over the years. I had a non-reverb EL34, sold it to get a reverb model EL34. Eventually sold it; I bought an Ecstasy Classic... which I did love, but yearned for the Shiva again. Bought another. Used to run them through the big Bogner 212 and a straight Bogner 412. Gigged that thing, hard, for over 3 years. Eventually moved on to other bands, and other amps... but never lost the love for the Shiva.

In the 10.xx firmware for the Axe-FX, they added in a Shiva (clean and lead channel) model blocks.

Here's a first rip around with it from my sensibilities; and it passes muster IMHO. Ripped this quickly, no limiting, no processing. Straight into Reaper and ripped off to mp3.

Just my Hamer DuoTone (Seymour Duncan 59 bridge pickup) into the Shiva Lead amp block. Using Redwire UberKab V30 1" Cap Edge SM57 cab IR. Recorded direct.

That sounds very good.

Thanks for adding to my Axe FX GAS!

Here's the pentultimate test, for me.

Eight years, different guitars, one take pushing the beat (oops)... but a valid test. One side (which?) is a PRS SC with a Bogner EL34 Reverb Shiva and Bogner 212 V-30 cab recorded with SM57's into a Phoenix Audio DRS-2 ($2199.00) preamp, Lynx Audio A/D in 2002 in my home studio. The other side, Hamer DuoTone, Axe-FX Ultra running direct (as detailed above) into same Lynx Audio A/D converters in 2010.

Which is which? Why?

They sound terrific Scott.

I literally just upgraded the firmware to 10.1 this morning (without a hitch).

The two Shiver presets, and especially the crunch ones, are among my favorites. I love the way it gets dirty on the treble pickup, with some volume, but is also tamable on bass with volume rolled off.

Once again, I don't know what I would do without my AxeFx.

Hey Scott, glad to hear the Duotone is working out for you. I'll send you a PM to get some input from you on how you are running your patches for the acoustic tones.

I have never been a big Shiva fan - I always thought they were too bright - but I really like the Shiva models in the Axe. I was really surprised at how much I like the Shiva clean model.

The clips sound good. I might have the left and right outputs reversed from my PC to the mixer so I'm not going to guess which side is which. I isolated both, and I could make points for either one being the amp. One side is a little darker, the other a little brighter and crunchier. I'm going to go with the darker channel as the Axe/Hamer only because my Duotone is darker sounding than my PRS CE22.

Idunno (and don't care) which is which, but I prefer the right channel, because its sound is brighter and more articulate. As with Ed's comparisons, my money says you could get that same sound with either rig with judicious parameter settings, mic positions, etc.

It rocks Scott.

I can't tell which one is which on the comparison tracks. They both sound great There is such a dynamic range with that amp, amp/sim.

I just bought a usb/midi cable off the bay. I can't wait to jump from 9.03 to 10.1. I have always wanted a Shiva. I will be getting one this week when my midi/usb cable arrives.

I'll have to wait a few days.

Also a Shiva man, my first boutique amp love, tried a bunch, gigged for years with them ... I think Scott's recordings pretty much say it all, this is the best amp modelling to date, period.

I think that the guitar on the "right" (which has more pronounced high end) is the AXE FX. I only say that because it sounds similar to the clip that you originally posted at the top of this thread. They blend very well together, though.

Wow! The clips from the Axe-FX just keep getting better. I may need to punch my ticket for the Axe-Train soon.
