My POG2 is pissing me off!
The first ever "boutique" pedal I bought was a micro POG. I saw this vid on youtube were Brian Beyke aka BTBAM, who else?, did these amazing organ sounds with it. I was just getting into pedal by the time and the scandinavian guitar show happened to be the next day. I went there, had a look around, and found a micro pog for almost half the price I'd seen in stores etc. I bought it, loved it and so begain organ/octave madness.
The only thing I never liked about the micro was the fact that I couldn't store presets. so without blinking, I got the POG2 when it came out. Now, except for jamming I use the POG on two songs. One were I do swells, and another were I start the song with a downright organ riff with lots of reverb. I wrote these parts before I got the POG2 and it works great for the swells. but for the organ stuff, I just never end up happy enough. Mind you, we all know it can do organ sounds, but I never manage to get THE sound I want. Been tweaking it for ages, but can't get it right. What gets in the way, to me, is the lp-filter and the detune. The detune I guess isn't to bad and can quite easily get rid off, but the filter just comlicates things. I just can't set it right. Either it's too "muddyandfaraway", too raspy or too harsh. The micro just seemed "cleaner". And I get the feel the POG2 doesn't track as tight either. Am I mad? If the micro had a +2 octaves too I'd go back instantly. nevermind presets. It just sounded more like "me". What am I to do? How different is the HOG? Would it be worth trying? Been gassing a lot for one lately. Help me.

the hog sounds thinner in my opinion. not the same beasts at all. I think the micro is more like the original big box pog just without the extra octaves and detunes.

Anyone else got suggestions? It's a shame POG" hasn't got a wet output like the micro. Otherwise I might've tried putting an EQ pedal after it...

I only use POG2 for jamming with records at home... but I know what you mean about the fine line between muddy/harsh Organ sounds... +Octave 2 and the LP Filter need careful attention to sound right and cut without harshness. I think it depends on the tone/mix of what you're playing along with but... switching pickups or a quick Tone knob adjustment on your guitar helps on the fly, but just give it time... don't be afraid to set up different sounds for comparing and photograph them for consistency when tweaking presets. Having one "harsh" and one "muddy" preset works for sitting well different mixes.
I got the POG2 for Organ stuff but I think the Attack control, even by itself, is where it shines.

I'de hardly consider EH boutique. They have been around forever and have more pedals now than they ever have...and they are all production units. If EH is boutique, so is boss and mxr. Just thought I'de throw this out there.

Oh well, what I meant that is was the first none boss line6 mxr behringer I bought. To me at the time, and still, perhaps a bit less, EHX feels more boutique than the other mentioned brands. Better? Gotta love TGP.

It's probably safe to say EXH is a cut above the most mass production-oriented pedal companies. At least in the sense that they are less bound to what is "safe" and cheap and easily marketable. They are a big company but they remain artists. Can't knock that.
